Plex doesn't find any of my videos

Hi,

I’m ready to trash this … No matter what I do, how I name them, where I store them, Plex media server doesn’t find my videos (.mp4, .mkv). Followed the instructions to the letter, to no avail. Really really frustrating.

What kills me is that there is absolutely no debugging possible. It just says “there are no objects in your media library”, period. No further information where exactly it has searched, what for it has searched, … nothing.

If I add the root directory of my share to the media library, then it finds 2 sample videos which came with the Plex installation, nothing else.

What am I missing? Where can I look for more information what’s going on? Any comments are highly appreciated.

Control Panel - Shared Folders - Edit the share Permissions for your media share.
Give user Plex permission to read them.

Thanks a bunch. That was it… who would’ve thought that Plex creates it’s own user to run under. Might’ve mentioned that it the docs somewhere, or reported an error about not being able to access the specified library directory…

Anyway, problem solved. Thank you.

When one looks at the logs, it clearly states “Permission Denied”
