Plex doesn't play sound or correct audio

Hello,

So I got a new 75in LG 75UN69 4k Smart Tv today. I set up plex to it and immediately started to have issues with about 99% of my movies and television shows. When watching a movie like Harry Potter, I get a different languages even when English is selected. If I switch to the other language I get no sound. When starting to watch other movies like Monster University I get some commentary from the directors talking about the movie and not the sound from the movie. These problems are only happening on this TV. If I watch plex and the same movies on my 55in LG 4k smart tv, iPad, Phone, Laptop or desktop PC I get no problems and have sound on all the movies and the correct language. I’ve provided logs but it seems like these issues are specific to this tv model. Not sure what I could do about it or If there is anything to do about it.

Please turn off verbose logging and save changes in server settings. It logs too many things making the logs mostly useless except in very particular cases.

Then in the Plex app on your TV in Settings>Advanced enable logging. This will write the logs from the tv app to your server logs.

After playing one of the file that does this then please get the server logs again.

I’ve turned off verbose logging and have logged from the TV that is having the issues which would be LG (75UN69) and my other LG smart TV. Both playing the same content. One TV plays the content with no issues and the other plays no sound or the incorrect audio even when having English selected. I’ve never touched the language settings on the TV that works.

I’ve got exactly the same issue with multiple mvk files ignoring the selected audio track and playing something else entirely.

For what it’s worth this issue is only present when using the “early access” player v5.4.2, if I drop out of early access and go back to player v4.29.9 there is no issue.

It’s very similar to this issue - LG cannot play AVI files - where the “early access” player is broken while the “original” player is perfectly fine.

Server Version#: 1.20.5.3600
Player Version#: 5.4.2 (not working) - 4.29.9 (working(
NAS: Synology DS216play (DSM v6.3.3-25426 Update 2)
LG Version#: webOS 3.3.0 and webOS 4.2.0 (multiple TVs with issue)

Seems like another issue that might not be fixed. Seems like some movies now are correcting themselves randomly or playing the correct audio while most still are playing wrong languages, no sound or the incorrect audio all together. Still can’t watch Harry Potter at all which is rather annoying unless I go upstairs to my other TV. Most likely will be turning off my plex subscription and moving myself to Kodi as much as I love plex, I’m not going to wait months for a “maybe” fix while paying for something that doesn’t work.

@markus101 - Hi, as you did such a great job fixing the avi bug in the early access version any chance you could take a look at this issue as well please? Happy to supply another sample file if needed, just let me know.
Thanks

Audio track selection on webOS is a bit wild as they do things like dropping TrueHD tracks or reversing the track order and provide limited information on those tracks in order to reconcile this issues. We’ve made some improvements previously

I’ve retested a file that previously had issues and it’s working, so a sample would be great.

Just sent you a DM with a link to download a sample file.
Just as with the avi issue, the problem only exists with the “early access” version. The earlier version works perfectly.

Thanks

Thanks for the sample! I’ve recently gotten another sample of a similar issue as well and should have this fixed in the next release, which given the upcoming holidays will be in January 2021.

In your sample the last track has an unknown language which tripped up the audio track selection in the app and they’ll selected in reverse order. There are a few things you can do now:

  • Remove the last audio track
  • Fix the language of the last track
  • Know that the order is reversed when direct playing and select the last track to play the first track, etc.

You are an absolute hero! Thanks for the info / workaround and looking forward to the January release.
