Plex doesn't see my Denon DRA-H800H as player

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2701-6327e27bf
Player Version#: 1.9.0.1203-00f2b4d9
Hi, I have the server installed on my NAS Synology and works well.
I’m using PC or Smartphone to play Music using Plex player but if try to find an external player like my Denon DRA-H800H, Plex doesn’t display it.
I can only play music via Pc or using the app via smartphone.
How can is fix it?

all the player used before automatically see my Denon amplifier as player and I can enjoy my music.

hello can you help me?

Is the Denon connected via Wire or wireless?

I ask because my Onkyo is wired.

The iOS app finds it easily.

Casting-from-iPhone

Hi, Denon is now connected via wire (lan cable)
But I tried both and plex app or plex via windows doesn’t see the amplifier.
This very strange because all others server like Emby or Roon see easily the Denon without doing nothing.
I like very much more plex but I cannot use it.
Do you have any idea?

I went toe-to-toe last night with the development team.

I have lots to I can share because, now, I understand it.
We also learned a great deal in that the whole “Cast” term is largely misunderstood.

What we came to:

  1. ChromeCast (which is what Plex implemented) is locked to the Google Chome API.
  2. The Chome API is only licensed for use in Google products (Chrome browser but not Chromium browser) on Windows/Mac/Linux, on iOS, and on Android.
  3. Plex’s “Companion” protocol is how all of Plex’s apps talk to each other.

What I show above is the result of:

  1. Plex apps
    a. The Plex phone app itself
    b. Chrome (running Plex/Web)
    c. Nvidia Shield (Plex app)
  2. ChromeCast - via ChromeCast API
  3. Onkyo - via ChromeCast API - because it has ChromeCast capability and advertises itself.
  4. Home Mini - a genuine Google product.

Does the Denon advertise as ChromeCast capable (have an embedded ChromeCast mode)? Newer models do while older do not.

These devices are slaves (destination only). They cannot ‘search’ for the server like DLNA can.

Might this be what you’re thinking of?

Hi, first of all thanks for your kind reply.
Unfortunately I’m quite sure that Denon has no chromecast capability. I try to find something on Internet and I haven’t found any “yes he can”.
So I cannot use it? There no other option to connect/see my Amplifier?

I use my Onkyo through the ChromeCast.
I find it a far more elegant solution than using the embedded ChromeCast capability because Onkyo’s ChromeCast client display isn’t as visually aesthetic as going through the ChromeCast device itself.

I can also cheat this way by telling the Home Mini

“Hey Google, Play easy listening instrumental piano on ChuckCast”

and the the Onkyo powers up with music shortly to follow.

I think I cannot do the same with my Denon. right?

I don’t know. Every place I look for info on the unit, I only get marketing blurb. I need technical info.

what you need to find is “ChromeCast” capability.

I’ve tried to surf on internet but I didn’t find any info. I think that I cannot use my ampli. I’m really disappointed because all the others programs recognize my Denon!
if you don’t have any other option you can close this topic.

thanks a lot for your help.

My Onkyo has a support number I can call for questions like this.
Do you have the same from Denon?

If so, I would think they have the answer for you.

Given how new the product is, it makes sense ChromeCast should be there.
