Plex doesn't see some TV shows

Hi. I have been using Plex server for a while, and one of the things I have running is that I record shows on my TiVo and then download them with cTiVo, and I have a script that puts files in the correct directory.

Plex used to see “The Andy Griffith Show,” but it does no longer. Plex also today does not see “The Rookie” from yesterday.

I have not moved anything with respect to “The Andy Griffith Show,” and yes those used to show up, but they don’t anymore. I’m not sure why those would have disappeared.

Regarding “The Rookie,” I have tried having the file at: TV_SHOWS_TOP_DIR/The Rookie/Season 5/The Rookie - Double Down.mp4 and also TV_SHOWS_TOP_DIR/The Rookie/The Rookie - Double Down.mp4 but neither one is seen by Plex.

Based on TheTVDB, that is the correct filename.

Any suggestions on these?

I know these issues are frequently posted, but there’s some sort of magic to make this work, and I’m not getting it right now…

Edited to add: I know that s##e## is generally part of the title, but I have many TV shows that work just fine in the format ShowName - EpisodeTitle.mp4 – as long as ShowName and EpisodeTitle are found in TheTVDB. I’ve been doing this for years. I have hundreds of episodes without a season # or episode # in them, and they show up just fine.

And, in this case, renaming the Rookie epsiode to The Rookie - s05e01 - Double Down.mp4, it shows up in Plex now. Still, I wonder why so many others work, but The Rookie & The Andy Griffith Show don’t work that way.

If you get lucky with deviating from the official naming schema, that’s just it… you got lucky.
I strongly recommend you go with the official naming schema and folder organization to avoid that kind of “hiccups”.

Well, I guess I’ve been lucky literally hundreds of times, wow. I’ll have to figure out some way to get my script to discern the episode season and number, in order to save the files correctly.

Also, I looked it up, and I literally have 5,885 (no typo) TV episodes in Plex that do not have a season number+episode number, so I’ve been lucky nearly 6000 times! All of them except “The Andy Griffith Show” show up just fine. And yes, maybe this is what happened to The Andy Griffith Show too – maybe something happened and it longer works without the season & episode numbers.

Don’t ask me when I’m going to get around to watching 6000 TV show episodes! lol

yeah the S##E## is needed, Im shocked it ever worked without it.

Maybe a load of embedded metadata in addition to being very, very lucky :wink:

Yeah, maybe. I’ve started migrating my videos to ensure that all of them have s##e## in them, and so far so good. Thanks.
