I’ve picked “original quality” in the download-settings in the iOS app (latest app at the time of writing), but when I try to download movies it still insists on transcoding. I’ve tried with different movies, “transcoding”.. Anyone else noticed this?
known bug supposed to be fixed in next release.
I have the opposite problem, I’m on the 2024.14 beta and when I select any of the quality settings it randomly decides when to obey or not. Sometimes it’s original quality, sometimes it transcodes, sometimes it’s larger than original.
There’s no rhyme or reason to it. So frustrating, I’m leaving for a trip soon and this forced update has been my single biggest source of frustration as I was planning to sync a lot of content to my phone & tablet.
EDIT - With further testing, I think this is a regression in 2025.14. It always downloads at original quality when you tell it to download a season.
I am having an issue with iOS now where clicking download doesn’t do anything. No error, no download initiated.
I am not saying what ever file you have should not be able to download without transcoding, but to be clear “original quality” does not mean “don’t transcode”. It means if it does have to transcode then keep it at the same quality (essentially bit rate) as the original
Say what? What is the point in having a “Original Quality” settings if this thing Transcode how ever it pleases?
Original Quality means Do Not Touch!
So if you have an AV1 video , but your phone/tablet can’t play AV1, it should download it and fail when you click play or should it refuse to download it ?
it should fail playing it if it dont have support for a format of course. Just like any other “player” would do if its a video, music, photo it do not have support for.
So you are fine with it failing when you are on the airplane and have no way to re-download it and tell it to transcode to make it playable?
I personally think it wold be great if when selected to download it states that " this items needs to be converted to make playable on this device" so you are aware it it going to happen. ( I’m not a dev and not sure how doable that is.) I think folks just decided having something playable is better than finding out while on the airplane it is not compatible
Original = Original Pixel size. Does not mean Don't touch
What about the audio ?
