Plex downloads slower than 9600 baud modem and other pains

Server Version#: doesn’t matter
Player Version#: doesn’t matter

Oh plex, you never disappoint.

Sync in the olde days wasn’t perfect. But at least it worked most of the times.
But downloads… where do I start

  • slow downloads: My plex server is on the same network as my mobile device. Yet it seems that my data is downloaded from some plex server in farawayistan. 20GB a whole night of downloading and still busy. And yes, my network is stable and fast (800 Mbit downstream over wifi). And yes my server is available and is able to provide data fast enough (Synology DS3617xs).
  • Transcoding: why are we still doing this? The files that are being transcoded, infuse plays them as is (yes I tested this). Download = download. If I wanted transcoding, you could have stuck with the old sync
  • subtitles: I only get subtitles on downloaded items when I start them from the downloads menu. If I play them from the home screen, the subtitles are gone for titles that have been downloaded.
  • prefer local content: don’t know why this settings exists because it is on, and when I disable wifi, a file started from the home screen doesn’t work. No, we need to go to the downloads section. Like Plex suffers from schizophrenia.

I’ve said this before, I am happy that I am a life member since the start because I wouldn’t pay for it anymore :frowning: Sorry.

Try adding your LAN prefix to Server Settings → LAN Networks (e.g. 192.168.1.0/24).

Thanks for the suggestion @wingcomm ! I did so now but don’t see any difference. Which is, form what I get from the manual, logical because this setting applies to bandwidth regulation. But Maybe it needs to kick in

Try unchecking both of these as a test:

Hi @wingcomm! In the meantime I did this myself and since then I’ve noticed indeed performance gain. I should have posted this here for all to see, sorry. But thanks for your ‘solution’
