So, I’ve been having a problem with Plex DVR that I can’t figure out how to solve.
Whenever a show is recorded, Plex DVR always appends the year to the show name and folder name, even when the year is not needed (because the show name is already unique). The result is that the show has a different name than it does in TheTVDB and other online sources. For example:
- Show name in TheTVDB: Lucifer
- Show name in Plex DVR: Lucifer (2016)
The Plex Library handles this okay, but it breaks compatibility with other software and taggers that I use in my workflow, as they fail to correctly identify the show, so I end up having to edit each one by hand.
It also seems to at least take some liberties with Plex’s own recommended naming conventions, which do not seem to add a year to the show name unless it is required for unique identification: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220687-naming-series-season-based-tv-shows/
Is there any way to modify this behavior so that the show name correctly matches that of the online data sources? I like Plex DVR, but this issue is currently causing me a lot of extra work.
