Plex DVR - Guide not refreshing reliably automatically

Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Player Version#: 3.83.1 or any player… not really relevant to this problem

This problem has been going on for a long time, for at least a year, but I had lived in hope that Plex would resolve it. I’m running PMS on a Synology DS918+, with a HDHomeRun CONNECT configured as the tuner. It’s set up in Local Over the Air Broadcast mode, although I have also tried this on ‘Freeview’ mode which I think uses Gracenote listings instead. Both fail…

When I first configure a tuner in Plex DVR, it works great. I can schedule series recordings and they work just fine for a few weeks. Then eventually, I’ll notice that in my Recordings page it’ll say “no upcoming airings” against programs that I know should be on during the upcoming week. When I look in the TV guide against these channels, the majority of the listings just say “To be announced”. I then have to manually go back to settings and refresh the guide, doing this every couple of days. At some point, even this will stop refreshing the guide (says it’s doing it, takes ages to download the airings, doesn’t give me any updates in the actual TV guide) and my only option then is to remove and re-add the tuner from/to Plex starting the whole cycle over again.

As I said, this has been happening for at least a year and I’ve tried loads of things:

  • Removing and re-installing Plex
  • Factory resetting the NAS
  • Reducing the selected channels I actually want
  • Changing the start and stop times for scheduled tasks
  • Having a look through the logs (doesn’t seem to say anything failed, but I’m no Plex log expert)

Ideally… I’d like someone from Plex to say “yup, we know about this and it’ll be fixed very shortly…”. Has anyone else experienced this, or is there any advice that can be offered to kick this into life?

I agree - this has been going on for a long time without any resolution. As a short term fix I have requested the option of a setting that forces a weekly refresh to catch all the TBAs but nothing has progressed.

Same problem here. Would love to have everything on Plex, but until they fix it or something, I am using the new 64bit version of sagetv. Not the best, but it is reliable.

I’ve given up posting any issues as there seem to be plenty. Additionally I’ve been leary of update, especially if all is working well, many updates seem to break other function of PMS. Other things like linking to online ‘digital’ libraries like Ultraviolet, Vudu, Movies Anywhere, etc. are not considered but we get ‘Tidal’ music, which I’m never going to use.

In fairness to PLEX developers, after reading their future ‘development language’ change and the many, many different hardware platforms, I felt sorry for them, what a job keeping PMS updates accurately distributed. Compare this to Cable TV providers singular hardware toasters and software with few if any updates, Spectrum just had a major ‘Guide’ update in 10+ years.

I running 3 PMS hardware configurations and all have had unique issues at differing times.
A few times I’ve deleted the PMS DVD and recreated it to cure scheduling problems.
