When I select Hawaii Five-0 (2010) or Hawaii Five-O (1968) from live TV for recording, the DVR doesn’t select the correct metadata for both shows, nor does it select the correct folder. Is there a way to modify the recording task to use the correct data and folder?
Search the forums. This apparently is a problem right now. MacGyver is another show that seems to have this problem.
Thanks. I see that there are issues with EPG data and matching, and I can verify that carefully naming and organizing previously-recorded episodes will enable the correct match. But I cannot find anything that addresses my question.
The program guide and the recording schedule correctly identify the 1968 and 2010 versions of the show, but when a 1968 episode is recorded, it is incorrectly matched to the 2010 metadata and placed in the 2010 folder hierarchy.
I think what needs to be done is to provide a method to disambiguate the show’s identity in the recording task itself. The advanced options currently allow you to specify a channel and a time, but there is no “fix match” functionality.
@jay343 so your episodes are showing under the correct show in the Program Guide? Mine are all under the 1968 show. I then have to manually rename the 2010 show episodes and move them to the 2010 folder.
Yes, but now that I think about it, the last thing I tried (Plex dance) was after the last show of the season for Hawaii Five-0. So, no upcoming episodes of the new show.
It could have something to do with the state of the database. In my case, I had episodes of Hawaii Five-O and Hawaii Five-0, in separate folders, before using Plex. Both shows were recorded with PlayOn. I used a program of my own design to normalize the file names and metadata using TheTVDB. That’s how I was able to get Kodi to match them up (PlayOn and Kodi don’t play nice without help).
I wonder what would happen if the two shows were placed in separate libraries? I might try that…
@johnm_ColaSC - OK now after performing the “plex dance” and scrutinizing the upcoming recordings, I find that the 2010 show episodes are being identified at the 1968 show. same as your situation.
The steps I’ve taken so far are:
- Make a new library folder structure (existing is G:\TV Shows, new on is G:\TV Shows 2)
- Move the 1968 Hawaii Five-O (1968) folder to G:\TV Shows 2
- Scan library (old Hawaii Five-O episodes are removed)
- Empty trash, clean bundles
- Add new library: “TV Shows 2” => g:\TV Shows 2. Hawaii Five-O now appears in the new library.
- Delete recording task for Hawaii Five-O (previously deleted Hawaii Five-0 because there were no upcoming episodes)
- Search for Hawaii Five-O in the Program Guide. Found multiple 1968 episodes on channel 20.2 (KOFY) and one 2010 episode on channel 5.1 (KPIX). Set advanced settings to limit recording to 20.2, but that did not remove the one on channel 5.1 from the queue.
These steps did not appear to have any effect on the mismatch before recording. As you say, episodes can be moved and re-matched after the recording, which is not only a hassle, but will cause a false file name collision (season x episode y).
Yep same situation. I have determined though that it is apparently not strictly a Plex issue. When I looked at tvguide.com last week they seemed to have the shows identified the same way.
Since the new show (2010) is typically only aired one time per week, I have been manually renaming the show and moving it to the correct folder location. I have not found the need to do the Plex Dance in these cases. The normal library scan seems to fix the one episode renamed/moved.
Will be interesting to see how the next few months are handled as the original show (1968) starts approaching the season/episodes of the 2010 show I currently have. Guessing since I have moved all the 2010 show episodes to the correct place in the library I will be alright since the 1968 show won’t have those episodes. Will have to stay alert for any 2010 show episodes that match existing 1968 episodes since they could potentially be overwritten by the 2010 HD version.
