I’ve been using plex since 2012 and have 1154 movies, and 228 tv series (10587 episodes). They all work fine and are added as expected. My file structure is TV SHOWS/Hawaii Five-0/Season 01/Hawaii Five-0 - S01E01 - Episode Name-quality.mkv (note that is a zero to denote the 2010 series)
I’ve tried several naming conventions for the specific series (such as Hawaii Five-0 (2010)), but it still doesn’t get added to plex when scanning the library. I’m running PMS 1.1.4.2757 on Ubuntu Server 14.0.4.5. Does anyone have any ideas I can attempt?

Try naming your folder: “Hawaii Five-0 (2010)”
and your files like: “Hawaii Five-0 - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv”
Note that for Plex the folder name is more important than the file name and that the “date” only needs to be part of the folder name.

This is exactly how mine is set up. I tried naming the show folder with the year and it still doesn’t work.
“Curiouser and curiouser,” Cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English)
I am lost then.
Maybe it is a Linux vs Windows thing. Try following @ChuckPa 's suggestion as far as naming. He mostly knows more than I.
It also could be that I started adding “Hawaii Five-0” a few years ago and it could be that something changed to make it harder to add now than it was back then and since I already had a match the matches just continued.
But if your structure matches mine it “should” work fine but also a career in politics “should” attract quality people with the interests of “The people” as a paramount concern. “Should” does not always mean what we think it should.
Switching the delimiter to a period solved the issue. Interestingly enough, even after renaming the media, I was still having scanning issues until a PMS service restart. When PMS did restart, it didn’t recognize my account and I had to log in locally and re-enable remote access. A lot of my server settings were reset to the default values, but library and agent settings remained intact.
