I am a long time Plex user and it is great; however, plex TV/DVR service is unusable. After much research I invested in HDHomerun tuner, new OTA outdoor antenna, Nvidia shield and month of Plex Pass…all of this is a complete waste. Plex is so buggy, it sometimes doesn’t release turners, if I get any drop in reception the audio shifts 2-3 seconds from the video, continually drops from PMS, etc. too many bugs to list. Look elsewhere.
for Live TV I use this and hope they make the experience better over time but I have to say the DVR function for me is fairly stable…
I use both the DVR and Live TV and it works perfect. My build is below and I am on the latest beta build. I stream to a Roku TV for Live TV and the DVR has been rock solid for the last couple of months. It’s working well enough that I have gotten rid of ALL paid TV options and only use antenna in my home!
I have a similar setup as you minus i have a hdhr prime and have been pretty stable for a while. But antenna could be different.
It’s nice to hear people are having success. Is there a way submit trouble tickets to get issues resolved? Right now the biggest issue is if I have any reception problems the audio gets several seconds out of synch with the video. This does not occur with other apps. The hung tuner issue seems to be getting better…usually after 2 tries it will tune in the channel. I suspect there are issues with integration with the HDhomerun tuners.
I had the same experience as you with the HDHomeRun and Plex. I transitioned my system from a Tablo solution, thinking based on my Plex experience it would be better.
I found that switching to the beta release channel cleaned things up dramatically. The windows server I used did not have the capacity to transcode the TS streams, so I purchased a used MacMini (late 2012) and moved Plex to that with the OSX version of PMS. Things now work pretty well, though transcoding still cause problems when streaming to a FireStick over the Internet. In the home using Roku, however, has been flawless.
There are issues to be sure. However, I’ve had a fairly good experience on my hardware with Plex DVR. Admittedly, I typically don’t use Plex for Live TV much and I suspect there are a number of issues with Live TV. I have used Plex for Live TV and when I do it mostly works.
