So , I figured I would give a fresh setup of plex (latest version) and test recording 2 channels and test a recording a channel that has been problematic for me. Problematic as in refuses to record the channel even though signal strength is 90+% at any rate here is what I came up with and maybe it will help get things fixed as I have been consistently disappointed with the DVR since release (missed recordings from this one station, wont record 2 shows from my hd home run extend if from one particular station, etc). I installed plex left all defaults and tested recording my problem channel and worked fine. Reviewed and hd homerun extend was on heavy transcode on the device web page and plex was using highest quality setting for the hd home run extend. Tested adding a second recording manually and worked fine (transcoded both no problem). Reviewed both recording once finished and audio was a tiny hair off but passable. So changed hd home run to no transcode on the device webpage (not plex). Set plex to original quality for the hdhomerun extend. Tested and the problem channel no longer records. Put all the settings back (both plex and hd home run) same result channel no longer records just fails. If I record a different channel and works fine. if I record 2 channels that are not the problem channel works fine. Not sure what the deal is. i have attached the plex media server logs. If you need additional logs let me know, I copied the folder after my testing. The channel was 58.1 that was having issues.
I will add. If I record 2 shows from any other combination of channels other than 58.1 it seems to work fine.
tested on the latest version and still not recording.
Turn off verbose logging. Try another recording and after it fails download logs, Settings/Server/Help and click the download logs link. Upload zip file created here. Include show, start time, and end time.
Show Name: Bull
Start Time 8:00 PM CST and 9PM End Time
Also 1.11.x seems very buggy, as in I started getting numerous plex media server crashes, which I have been very fortunate to not ever have happen. I switched back to the latest 1.10 version.
Thanks in advance for your help
I have tested updating hd homerun fimware levels to the latest version. Scheduled recordings from this one station still dont work from this station. What else do i need to do?
Been awhile since I posted back in may. Now I am ready to record my fall seasons and cant still on this one station. I updated plex and HD homerun firmware. Now it says transcoder error.
This is shown in the plex media server log:

I do not have Windows Update KB4338819 installed like that other thread however, will test installing the latest updates, as I can record all other stations I want and not this 1 station, I find it HIGHLY unlikely windows update will fix. Since updating plex though the errors are more descriptive.
Your HDHR Extend is rejecting the request from Plex to stream. Possible causes: device can’t tune the channel v2.1, or all tuners on device are utilized so is unable to handle the request from Plex
The channel it has issues recording with is 58.1 on the regular TV. So not sure if that matters as it says 2.1. I can assure you that the tuner is not busy. The only thing the tuner does is record stuff for plex and nothing else and I make sure there are no duplicate shows that overlap. Thanks for any additional info/help!
Your snip of the logs did not reflect channel 58.1, it was requesting channel 2.1.
I don’t know what else to tell you other than the HDHR is rejecting the request from Plex. From page 3 of the HDHomeRun HTTP Development Guide from SiliconDust website:
Errors:
If the virtual channel number is not known the tuner will return “404 Not Found”.If the request cannot be completed at this time (for example all tuners are in use) the tuner will
return “503 Service Unavailable”.If the program cannot be not found in the stream within 5 seconds or the program cannot be
authorized within 5 seconds the tuner will return “503 Service Unavailable”.If the program requires content-protection not requested by the client the tuner will return “503
Service Unavailable” after 5 seconds.
So either the tuners are all in use, program cannot be not found in the stream, or program requires content-protection not requested by the client.
Have you tried issuing the request manually using the curl command? Looks like you might be running Windows? If so you can open a powershell window and enter:
curl http://192.168.1.12:5004/auto/v2.1?transcode=heavy"&"duration=30 -o C:\somepath\output.ts
where somepath is a valid location on your drive. Perhaps your user account desktop.
That is infact the problem. Plex thinks it is 2.1 and it is not correct it is infact 58.1. If I go to live TV it reports channel 58 in my area as 2.1 rather than 58.1. Other channels work fine. It wont even do live tv on that because it is tuning to 2.1 which is CBS from a nearby locale, which my antenna must be able to pickup periodically. So Plex is working fine and so is the HD Home run. I unselected 2.1 from the available channels and refreshed guide data. Will test recording again now that it can actually tune in CBS from the correct channel.
If there is something else I need to do to get rid of channel 2.1 let me know as I need that gone so it records from the correct station. Thanks!
If you don’t want it coming back I would suggest going into the HDHR device itself, click Channel Lineup, and clicking twice by the channel to put a red x beside the channel so Plex won’t even see it as a channel from the HDHR. Then make sure it is not showing in Plex.
Thanks for your help on this, it was killing me. Last year they did not have live tv and the logging wasnt as detailed. So when I saw the 2.1 I knew something was up. I was able to record 2 shows at once on my hd home run (first time ever, this time of year has more shows on than any other time so I really put Plex through its paces), with commercial skipping enabled and now I can record CBS now that it is using the correct station.
i <3 plex
Turned CommSkip off audio sync issues and can deal with commercials for the time being. Thanks again.
