I have set up Plex Media Server in Ubuntu 16.04 with a Happauge WinTV-HVR-1600 PCI TV Tuner. While I recognize this is not an officially supported card, it is listed as an unofficial card and DID work for a short while. The workstation is an older Phenom II with 12 GB of memory, and it’s been quite reliable despite its age.
I had successfully performed recordings and viewed live TV with this setup and card. Having made no changes to the overall configuration, I did turn on the commercial removal option to try a recording without commercials. This failed, indicating the transcoder had crashed.
Now I can get no videos to play from this server from my library (if transcode is required), and neither LiveTV or DVR function. I have done a purge of Plex Media Player from the system and re-installed, but no luck.
If someone can tell me what logs to post, I can do so, as I would like to get this working again - as a precursor to investing in a HomeRunHD box down the road (the tuner was free, and I just want to explore the feature before putting any money in).
