Seems like if I’m using the HDhomerun app to watch a show and then Plex starts recording it will error like it can’t utilize the HDhomerun device but if I’m not using the app then Plex will record with no problem. The error I see in Plex is “the recording was aborted” but if I stop the HDhomerun app and try again it works fine.
Seems like Plex can’t use the second tuner on the Dual
I think it’s been noted elsewhere that Plex doesn’t check the availability of tuners and assumes they are exclusively for its own use. Until a modification is made to the software, a best practice would be to have a device dedicated to live tv and another to Plex.

Holly crap, seriously is that how it works? So if I’m watching say a channel on the channels app on my Apple TV using my Hdhome run connect (which has two tuners) and a scheduled recording on Plex starts, Plex will abort even though the 2nd tuner is free and available???
If that’s the case then that’s insanely bad. Nobody in their right mind would buy yet another $200 hdhome run box to use it exclusively with each program they use.

I think it may go beyond not checking. I can’t get Plex DVR to utilize the 2nd tuner on a HDHR-US Dual tuner at all. It only uses the 1st tuner, if a 2nd recording starts it overrides the 1st recording and starts a new recording using the 1st tuner. I can’t get the 2nd tuner to be used by Plex at all.

I have no issues with two HDHRs and Plex fully utilizing all 4 tuners across the 4 devices. You might reproduce the error and post logs. Maybe someone from Plex will help.

Not sure if your configuration is the same, but it was an issue and is now fixed. I’ll see how it goes.
(DVR) Multiple concurrent recordings could not be made with the HDHR Dual (#6934)
