Plex Dvr record location

Mine keeps putting TV shows in the Movies folder and I can’t change it because it insists TV shows are movies. A real pain. This and a few other issues that seem to not work for shows that are not based in America. Really should be some overrides for other countries.

The DVR will record to directories listed in TV Shows. All this depends on how you organize your libraries. If you classified your TV Shows as Movies the metadata grabber will still work. But your PMS will not know to put recordings there. If you have more than one TV Show directory you can select which one you want to record to when you schedule the recording.

MalibuDave42, I need this solution. have you been able to find out how to do this?

I max out my hard drive where I record my tv shows to. I end up recording 4 shows at once and performing com skip all on my 4TB drive while my main drive is SSD and is just chilling there. Would love to record and process the file on the SSD and then transfer to my 4TB after.

Since I originally posted this question, Plex has changed (kinda) the way they handle recording/live tv. My setup is a 250gb SSD on the local PlexServer to record, transcode, etc, but final storage is on my 20tb NAS. The file being created during recording is in a directory you define at Settings -> Transcoder -> Transcoder temporary directory -> “I set mine to my SSD”, once the file is finalized the Comskip happens (I use the built in one), finally the TVShowFile is transferred to my NAS for final storage and usage.

Ah so this explains why my recordings are failing. I have set up a ramdisk for plex transcoding so that I don’t wear out my SSD. Unless you have an enterprise SSD, you don’t really want to do all your transcoding there. But that means that the limited size of the ramdisk is filling up and that’ll be why the recordings fail after about 15 minutes. Argh. At least I found out why - I suspected as much. Great info! I do have quite a bit of RAM - I wonder how much I could allocate and get away with.

Nope, it’s definately still saving into my media directory. The grab folder is still there complete with an active recoding from the DVR. So for recording at least, it seems it doesn’t go to the transcoding directory and there appears to be no way to change it without using a subst / link command.

The Session segments go to the transcoder directory with a concurrent concatenation to the .grab file. If the Transcoder directory fills up/has a write error then the recording is ended.
