Is there a function that edits episode metadata across all of my TV Shows simultaneously? Because that is what Plex did to me. I have a TV show that is not in any database, so I setup that metadata myself (episode name, date released, and description). Now, I’m noticing that all of my TV shows in that library have that same metadata! I don’t know when this happened. I haven’t gone into my TV Shows lately and the last time I edited that metadata for my custom show was months ago. For IMDB recognized TV Shows, I have to manually go into each episode and unlock the 3 incorrect metadata fields and then refresh metadata to fix it. So annoying and time consuming. For my other custom shows in the library I’ll have to rebuild that metadata from scratch.
Is there a way to wipe all metadata (including locked fields) from a library and start over?
You’ll basically have to do a giant Plex Dance with all of the files in the library, or you could rebuild the whole library by deleting and recreating it. The Plex Dance should fix it though as long as you haven’t diddled around with the agents settings. Are you sure the shows don’t exist in The TVDB? It contains a surprising amount of content. Even weird stuff. You just have to make sure you name your files correctly for the agents to match it.
Ok, I was afraid that was the only solution. But if I do that I’ll have to rebuild more than just the metadata, I’ll have to manage library sharing, home screens on multiple devices, etc. For my library it will actually be less work to just go through each show manually. I forgot to mention in my OP that the incorrect metadata fields are locked so I can’t simply just refresh metadata.
The Plex Dance should still work. Move the files out of the folder the library is directed at, scan the library, empty trash, clean bundles, move files back, scan again, and boom. It should work. Plex dancing fixes like 95% of metadata issues. It should also prevent any of the issues you mentioned unless you have really specific tag based sharing or something. The library and its overarching settings will remain, but the content and it metadata will be forced to refresh because Plex will think that you have deleted it but left the library intact.
Yeah it definitely seems odd. Maybe someone with more knowledge then I will chime in and explain why that happens. In the meantime I hope that will solve your issue
