WHY am I getting an email about a new prince cd from plex? I know they have a thing for tidal but I subscribe to Apple Music, will not be changing and couldn’t care less about these features from plex. What about emails with new developments in the players and server? Can I unsubscribe from the spammy tidal plex emails without unsubscribing from the legitimate ones?
I have Tidal disabled as well, but still got the email. I agree with the OP. I object to marketing emails. It’s bad enough that the informative newsletters are rife with nonsense that the author incorrectly thinks is cool or funny.
If Plex insists on continuing these marketing spams, it’s time for a separate opt-in (meaning, default is off ) subscription option.
And as I stated earlier, there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the e-mail.
I’m not disagreeing with you or the OP. Marketing e-mails should be off by default. Also, I did not see a way to change such e-mail preferences in my account settings on plex.tv. However, Plex provides a method to stop receiving marketing messages, the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the e-mail.
Weird, the first time I followed the link I only saw a single unsubscribe option, which I assumed meant ‘all.’ I just clicked it again, and there are two options.
I definitely disabled Tidal (immediately) but got the email. Not going to unsubscribe though, I always get excited when I get an email from Plex that this will be the one that contains something I’m interested in. Hasn’t happened in a while, but used to do quite frequently. That said, after a couple of years of frustration, I’m pretty happy with it these days. Trakt integration, plus a watchlist of some sort and I don’t have any annoyances remaining that I can think of…
Yeah sorry @OttoKerner thats just not true.
Tidal was disabled half an hour after it infected my PMS. I got the email earlier too. I will put it down to a glitch in the Plex system this time… next time I will never recieve another email from Plex, until I disable the spam filter at least.
Okay, so we determined what’s going on here. Only fairly recently did we gain the ability to make use of TIDAL opt-out information when sending emails. The reason that some of you who did disable the TIDAL provider still received emails is that you disabled it prior to this new functionality we got. So, the email side didn’t know that your accounts had disabled TIDAL and thus the account wasn’t excluded.
We’re currently working to get the existing TIDAL status information “backfilled”, which should be completed soon. So, you have a couple of options:
Easy way: Don’t do anything and we’ll be backfilling the information so that future emails correctly respect the status. I don’t know precisely when that will be completed, but the expectation is certainly that it would be done prior to any future TIDAL-oriented email.
Very sorry for the confusion around this, folks. (It’s also worth noting that even if you’ve disabled TIDAL as a provider, if you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you may still receive emails that mention TIDAL as just one piece of the email. Exclusions would generally only be applied when an email is specifically about a particular provider.)
