I just purchased plex lifetime. Set up on our 4k roku TV with closed caption working. No close caption, spent a couple of hour finally gave up trying to get closed caption back. Removed plex app, close caption back.
Not very happy, in fact passed off.
captions are controlled by the system. if they are on for one thing they are on for all. in the plex app Settings>Subtitles>Roku Captions Mode On/Off or turn them on/off in any other app or system settings
Thanks for the reply BigWheel, it is the same information I found in forums. It does not work. I reinstalled Plex in our Roku tv and all close caption on the tv stopped when I asked Plex to always show close caption. I have a android TV box and it works well. My windows computer works well but not on Roku our main tv and the one my wife watches. Do I need to say more. No close caps No Plex on that tv. I would really like to set it up if there is some work around? Please advise.
After many tries I gave up and got plex working on my computer. I set up closed caption. Worked fine, set up my android box worked fine. Reinstalled plex on my roku tlc TV. Close captions now work. I think it is shared settings forces the captions on the roku.
What @BigWheel was saying is that the Plex app on Roku uses the Roku Accessibility settings. If you go into the Plex app settings and go to Subtitles the text at the bottom when on Roku Captions Mode says “Toggle the Roku system captions mode. This must not be ‘Off’ if you wish to be able to view subtitles.” To test this I set the “Captions mode” to “On always” under the Roku Accessibility settings menu. I then went into the Plex app and turned subtitles off in Plex. Then exited the Plex app and went back into the Roku Accessibility settings and saw the “Captions mode” was now turned off. Set it back to “On always.” I then logged into the Plex App again, verified the Plex subtitles setting was set to on, switched to my Shield TV Plex Server, started playing a Live TV session and the closed caption text was displaying.
I am not sure why your closed caption text was not displaying on your Roku TV. I don’t have a Roku TV but used my Roku Ultra. Glad you got it working instead with a Windows Plex Media Server installation.
I did all that. What I think may have been the problem was I was probably on my sons server. Once I reset my server/computer the settings on it where used by my TV. What I found really strange was my TV would not, period, reset. I tried many times. Once I took the Roku app off it went back to normal. I have since gone to my sons server and cc works.
Gremlin?
