Plex errors with Hardware Transcoding after moving plex to new Qnap Nas

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486
Player Version#: 4.96.3

I bought a TVS 872X and upgraded the CPU to I7-9700. moved plex over from older QNAP nas.

Now when I try to watch specific video files on chrome, it will not play and either gives me an S4032 (Manifest) error on chrome or an s1003 (network) error on firefox. On Edge, it just keeps spinning until it goes out. It has also errored out on firesticks.

I tried everything I could think of and I found that when I unchecked both Use hardware acceleration when available and Use hardware-accelerated video encoding, the files can play. I want to know if it is the CPU or if is it a setting in plex that needs to be changed/fixed.

I am not a big nas/Linux person, I literally moved plex from windows to nas and old to new nas using info from this forum. Any assistance you can give to help fix this issue would be great.
Thanks

This is a problem. You upgraded the CPU yourself or did QNAP?
Does QNAP support i7-9700 (offer upgrades)?

I can see where PMS sees a UHD630 QSV ASIC

When the transcoder goes to look for it – it’s not there.

I upgraded the CPU myself.

Yes, it is supported because it shows up in the qnap system under the control panel and I have not had any issues on the qnap nas itself since I upgraded it. Is there a way to fix this?

I ask if QNAP supports it because, per intel:

A BIOS/firmware update is required due to chipsets and QNAP has proprietary chipsets.

( I have a TVS-1282 which needed drivers to use a KabyLake CPU )

So I either have to get the firmware to update it or downgrade to an 8th-generation intel?

That is not so bad, I believe that at one point they came with an I7-8700T. If I can install one of those, would I be able to use hardware transcoding again?

If you install an i7-7700, I know it will work.
If QNAP offered a product (or upgrade) to a -8xxx then QTS will have all the right firmware onboard.

Intel changed how everything worked to access the QSV in the -9xxx series.

Everything is dependent on what QNAP offer(s/ed)

It originally came with an I3-8100T, options they had for purchase were an I5 and an I7 option that is currently sold out.
But I think it went:
i3-8100T
i5-8500T
i7-8700T
All coffee lake.

I checked the qnap website for the available firmware updates and there was nothing in the details about chipset updates.

I’ll try the 8700T and if it does not work move to a 7700 or 7700T.
I will update you with the results

Thanks again for all your help! You are a lifesaver!

You won’t need to add firmware to the machine as long as it was an option previously available.

QTS will already have the needed firmware included and will ‘just work’ once you get a properly supported CPU in it.

Chuck,

I got the I7-8700T today and put it in, immediately after I logged into the nas it said it had a firmware update. It was not saying that before with the I7-9700.

I ran the firmware update then went to plex and rechecked Use hardware acceleration when available and Use hardware-accelerated video encoding and it played with no errors or issues.

I am all set, thanks again for all your help!

Excellent.
