I really like the aesthetics and layout of the Plex experience preview on my Apple phone. I like it much better than the traditional app. However, I do know it has its bugs and issues. A couple of questions:
1.) What is expected timeframe for official release for IOS Phone and Apple TV?
2.) How soon is testing going to happen for Roku and Fire TV devices?
3.) With it being implemented in IOS devices, should the implementation on other devices be quicker?
I updated the Plex app on my iPad, and now it won’t do anything - it’s stuck at the Pick Your Favourite Libraries page & doesn’t find any libraries. I’ve been using Plex for many years, but it looks as if this is the end. The loss of the photos & music from the main app is a major step backwards too
Yea my music being gone sucks I liked using one app for everything. The ui isnt great and not being able to customize the bottom bar llike how we could the old side popout one would have been good to have, but they took features away like the music and photos and gave us less we dont need too. If there is away to bring it back i dont see it. Just not feeling this new app.
Updated to the new layout on iOS and can immediately say I am not a fan. As others have stated elsewhere the removal of access to music and photos is a major step backwards. The new app is also extremely laggy when it never was before. For example scrolling through my library and the scroll is stuttering and the TV/Movie posters take much longer to load. Additionally, the new libraries tab layout is nonsensical. I do NOT need a “recommended” tab for my own library. It should be as simple as it was before where all I had to do was click my TV/Movie library and boom, there was my collection to scroll through at my own leisure. For TV in particular, the UI decision to scroll sideways between seasons/episodes rather than having it as a list also makes no sense and is a pain to deal with. For shows with numerous seasons or seasons (like a sitcom) that has 20+ episodes, having to side scroll rather than vertically is the complete opposite of how people typically scroll on their phones and is cumbersome and annoying. With a vertical scroll you can have multiple columns (like it used to) which also reduced the overall scrolling need. With one horizontal row to scroll through it is now much more annoying to get to a particular episode if you want to. Finally, not having the ability to have the video rotate with the phone and lock to just the horizontal view is also a frustrating decision and a step backward in the previous functionality.
Having all downloaded content mixed together and not have the option to skip to next episode is trash. hopefully they fix it or at least put out a legacy app for the people that paid and want the system they payed for instead of this half baked attempted to be netflix with extra steps.
Just updated my Plex app, and I can only agree with the previous feedback.
Regarding the interface when selecting a series, there’s nothing to complain about. The addition of the logo and background is visually very pleasing.
However, selecting an episode and having to swipe horizontally is really a bad idea, especially for series with a lot of episodes.
Additionally, I find the library selection very poor and far from intuitive. It’s not easy for users to choose their media library, unlike before when we could simply pin the libraries we were interested in.
I think it would be more convenient if the library selection was placed on the same line as the “Browse,” “Categories,” etc. tabs.
I also agree with the previous opinions, I believe a legacy version, or at least a more customizable one, especially for the tabs, would be a good solution.
just updated to the new ios app. So far it seems like any other new item. some things are so much better while there are so many bugs/issues to correct/fix.
I have my ipad connect to an external display and on the previous versions the video would play on the external screen only. I like the fact that it plays on both now however this has cause the external screen to try to match the ipad resolution and the video on the external screen now has black bars surrounding the video and is about 2 inches thick on all sides. this is a problem on a screen that is about 12 inches wide by 7 inches tall. please fix this or go back to only the external screen playing the video. probably more bugs to be found than this but as i said, i just updated.
edit: also the keyboard doesn’t work on video playback anymore i.e. spacebar should pause left and right arrows should jump forward or back.
edit: cant find the setting to reenable the auto skip intro
I have the same issue as others. I have been using the Plex App to stream schlocky movies, but with the new update, I can’t even get past the screen that is asking which libraries to add. My server is down for the foreseeable future due to hardware failure and budgetary constraints, but I was still using the app daily. Can y’all please fix this so that I can skip past that screen and still keep enjoying the app?
It is bad and very buggy. It is not acceptable. They should roll it back until they fix all the problems and actually make a decent app, or better yet, just not fix things that aren’t broken by replacing them with something that is broken.
Terrible experience… Just found another bug tonight.. Now cannot reliably use subtitles on films as they tend to walk up the screen for some reason, eventually filling the screen with old subtitles. This update is awful.
This “New” experience is the absolute worse. Where did everything go? ALL of my recently addeds are GONE and in its place is EVERYTHING in the library oldest to newest. It was SOOOOO easy before and now its a nightmare. PLEASE! Give us the option of how we want our PLEX! It wasn’t broken, why did you fix it??? Its completely non-intuitive now. Why do you hate us???
