Plex external direct play time bar forward

Hi
I want to ask for help.
I have a problem with the forward function. I access the server from an external network on a Windows laptop. When opened in a browser, the plex page plays the movie transcoded, of course, but I can easily jump forward in the movie as much as I want on the time bar.
If I use the plex application on Windows, it no longer transcodes, so it plays the movie in direct play mode, but I can’t use the forward function on the time bar. I tried it on several machines and this is the case on all of them. If from an internal network (that is, where the server is also located), everything works perfectly even through the Windows application.
What could be the cause of the problem?

My suspicion would be that the Plex transcoder is silently “fixing” the file, so it works for streaming.

But if you Direct Play the file, the transcoder is not involved and thus cannot fix the file for you.
Which means that the source file is either

  • unwieldily large
  • in an obsolete/crappy container format (like AVI)
  • muxed in a way that is unsuitable for streaming (no interleaving, bad seek markers etc.)

A good test would be to drag the problem file into MKVtoolnix and remux it.
Then put it onto your Plex server and test it.

Hello,

All files have this problem.
Be it 4K movie or series and HD movie or series. As a result, there are movies that can be 40-50GB, but series are not.
