I personally like these thoughts a lot. While we have a lot on the plate currently, we aren’t targeting DVR-specific features at the moment. So what I can push for here is that we make a pass through DVR in general next year to try and clean up issues and enhance the offering.
This isn’t a deflection - we have initiated this type of targeted push in some areas this year (subtitles is one of those areas) and had some great success with it and I feel confident that while we may not address everything as requested here, we can certainly add value! Thanks for the post @Divideby0 !!
Yes, a forced subtitle track should be forced on to the viewer, and it has to be manually switched off while playing if the user wants to turn it off.
I’m guessing this is not how it works in Plex because if a foreign language subtitle track is set to forced then that would be shown on screen regardless if the user can read it. Perhaps it should be: Show forced subtitle if… 1) subtitle track is forced=1 AND 2) subtitle track language matches the preferred subtitle language. Otherwise, disregard forced tracks.

Hello Plex team,
I’m trying to figure out a plexamp issue that concerns that « appear on » section on artist profile where basically let’s say a song S from an album A has artist set as A1 feat. A2 and when pressing Artist Page it links both artists but on A2 wouldnt have this album on its profile unless i remove manually A1.
thank you for your hard work i dropped all streaming plateforms thanks to you.
Of course I can’t think of anything else at the moment, but I would like to do more Admin things within Dash. The only one on the top of my head is being able to add labels to shows or movies I add to the server. I have my kids on a managed account designated by labels. So, when I add a movie I need to go to Plex web to add the label so it will show up when they log into Plex.
I appreciate you still doing these fireside chats. It helps to have some sort of idea of what is being looked at / worked on even if there isn’t a specific time frame.
@McWanke would you mind checking on this feature request please → Display both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings
Basically, the plex roku app has had imdb, tmdb and rotten tomatoes ratings in the UX for years. The data is part of the xml for any plex entry and its just the clients (android and webux for example) are lagging behind.
I’d asked @DaveBinM previously about this when he worked at plex and it was meant to be coming but the years are still ticking on.
A post was split to a new topic: HW accel broken for flatpak
My home movies and disc rips are not available on torrents. Support for P2P would look like tacit support for piracy and the company probably needs to be really careful about that.
You know what metric would be really good to add? Hardware encoding graph! Please consider it.

Hi Plex team!
First, thanks for this Fireside, thanks for your works on these beautiful apps. ![]()
I’ve been used Plex for several years now and I’m totally in love with Plexamp, which I consider as the best existing music app (same experience on mobile or desktop, five stars notation, design, smart playlists, album artist tag, … and so many others, wow). It’s sad to see the Tidal’s decision as Plexamp and a streaming service were the perfect combination to discovering new music.
So :
- I know it’s not totally your call, but as mentioned in a toooons of posts, Qobuz would be a create replacement to Tidal, because I think the purchase option offered by Qobuz could bring even more value to the app.
I think that the the most negative point of the Plexamp is the offline experience:
-
Why limit download size on the application? The network is not always stable (especially on trains or subways, from time to time because I’m out of the country). Download can save data and battery life! Are you thinking of offering unlimited downloads?
-
Do you think it would be possible to have a similar online and offline experience? (I think Spotify offer that, but maybe I’m wrong), My idea: We could have all the information from our library synchronized on our device (the information, not necessarily the media). When we’re online, we could stream music from the server or listen to music downloaded to the device (as we do now), and when we’re offline we could navigate in the same way, with undownloaded music grayed out (this is an example) and downloaded music playable directly. The Download tab is not at all as practical as browsing the library…
-
I think there are a few small errors in the French translation of the application. Where can I report them?
Voilà. Thanks for you time and sorry for my broken English.
I’d love to see some more advanced library management tools. For example, I recently needed to split a music library. I had hoped that when moving albums from one library to the next, the date added and play history would transfer to the new library. Instead, I have a new library full of albums that all show as added when scanned by the new library, none of which show any history of ever being listened to.
Official tooling to help with ‘advanced’ library operations such as split /merge / move would be very much appreciated!
Hi, I’ve would like to know if the movie’s (or show’s) logos are in the todo list on the preplay page ?
Yeah! Good timing because we’ve actually been working on logos for a long time and are allllllmost finished. It’s been a pretty interesting experience, as there have been a lot of technical challenges unique to Plex, since we have to be able to support every movie available and not just our own catalog.
If you’re curious, some of these challenges were:
- Where do we source them from?
- How do we pick the right logo?
- How do we handle cropping whitespace and size differences?
- How do we ensure accessible colour contrast compliance when doing automated logo selection on top of automated gradient selection?
- How do we get the most performant format in the most performant size for each client?
- What does a fallback look like for when we can’t get a logo?
Honestly with all of these challenges, our goal in the first release is somewhere between Decent → Pretty Good, and we plan on doing some rapid iteration based on feedback once we see how the logos are shaking out in the wild.
It is more responsive and there are some options I’m missing or that simply do not work. Eg the zoom function of plex htpc is not working if the black bars are part of the encoded video. In Kodi you can just zoom. Btw. there are several posts here in the forum where customers ask for help or report issues about your zoom function or other htpc related stuff. All of them are being ignored by you guys.
A couple of services have been mentioned here in this Fireside chat. I just want to say that I am part of the engineering team, not the business development side of things. I can pass these along but until someone else at Plex comes to me super excited asking me to help build an integration against a signed contract (yay!) we can’t do much with these. I just want to manage expectations here with these suggestions and say that I don’t have any knowledge of any conversations with other music providers at this time
Could you please also pass on my comments?
I’ve been using Plex for years and have been enjoying using it without any complaints, until the orange unwatched corner triangle was taken away. Visually it makes it more difficult to see what I haven’t watched. It also makes looking at the library less appealing with all of the extra checkmarks. I have set “Watched Indicators for Personal Media” to none, which was an improvement over having to see the checkmarks, but I am really hoping that we can get back the unwatched orange corner triangle. Thank you!
Sorry, I meant posters (or backgrounds), if we could export automatically poster into the video folder when a movie (or show, episode) was detected (or if the posters has changed by the user) that would be great ![]()

As always, thanks for doing these. I would happily echo anybody who suggested focusing on bug fixes and improvements to existing things over new features. There’s so many “easy wins” just left on the table that would take very little time and alleviate so many frustrations.
Some have been mentioned already, like displaying nerd stats, showing the subtitle improvements, displaying the converted bitrate, etc, there’s just so many of these little things that don’t require massive overhauls to the code and UI.
For example, one easy win that would alleviate a lot of problems with people complaining about changing posters is just to lock the existing poster before upgrading the library, though it’s probably too late for that as I’m sure most people have already gone through the painstaking procedure by now. If they want to change it later, let them, but just assume that the poster currently selected is the correct one. I’m not sure why that wasn’t the default logic to begin with as who wants potentially randomly changing posters on every metadata refresh? Especially when you knew the source of the new posters was going to be inferior? Secondly, and I don’t know why the behavior isn’t like this, but if you click Edit and decide the poster selected is good and hit save, that should lock the poster. Currently you have to select something else and then re-select the one that was already selected and hit save, otherwise it could potentially change on you.
It’s little things like that which are easily fixable that can lead to so many tiny frustrations adding up over time. Raise the tide by cleaning up all of the easy fixes so that real problems and improvements can surface and get the attention they deserve.
Hi. Do you have plans to make a proper fix for those who use the Nvidia shield as their server and who can’t even see the Plex media server on settings, rendering the device useless. And have better live tech support for those who A: need more help.than an article can provide, esp when all the fixes haven’t worked, and B: aren’t engineers so some of the more tevhnical jargon might not mean anything.
I already asked this question but maybe it got lost in all the questions.
