Server Version#: latest stable
Player Version#: latest stable
Watching a TV series and no matter what I do or what option I choose, neither firetv nor android app will play the external ASS subtitle. No setting changes this whether its automatic or image burn or always. Simply does not play.
The web version plays it just fine.
Again proof that we need to update the exoplayer to the latest version rather than use something years old.
I was going to say “it’s been reported for quite awhile.” but I’m actually able to say, it’s not the same for me.
When I have the Fire Stick client set to always burn subtitles, it actually is working for me for external ASS subs now that I just tried it. That’s not much of a help – because I certainly don’t want to use that setting. I didn’t buy a client that can natively handle VOB/PGS subs just so I can transcode them along with all the the ASS subs I want to maintain fonts/screen placement on and SRT subs that can be played normally, too.
Yep I understand. However, I guarantee what I’m trying to play can’t be played on the firetv or android apps. If I re-encode it or change the sub format then it works. But, just like you I haven’t bought something to spend even more time and effort just to get it to do what it should do in the first place anyway. The webpanel as usual plays it.
Again, comes down to using an extremely old version of exoplayer within their android/firetv apps. It needs to be updated to the latest version and most of these problems we are all having would disappear.
