Plex for Android TV Fails to Play 4k HEVC Video

Trying to figure out what it is about a 4k HDR h265 mkv file that stopped being able to play within the PLEX android TV app on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019), and my friends Android TV (Hisense U8G). It plays fine in the Plex Web Interface, Android Mobile Plex, and Kodi for android, and Media Player Classic/VLC on desktop. It was working about 2 months ago until recently.

Behavior (Stuck loading playback forever).

I’m having this issue as well with my Nvidia Shield TV Pro ('19). Will provide my media details and log later today. Same media plays fine on Samsung smart TV, Plex mobile for Android, Plex Web, and Plex for Xbox.

Same Problem for me, but on AppleTV 4K (2021). On my Android Sony TV same File plays fine

I am having the exact same issue. Had anyone found a solution yet?

Same on Sony A9G Android TV

It looks like TVs are abandoned on Plex Android app. They keep adding some useless minor things, but you won’t get any fixes for what’s really not working. And I’ll keep repeating that, because it’s true and even Play/Pause doesn’t work properly there…

This sounds like the HDR10+ issue I have that was introduced with the ExoPlayer updates from in the Android Plex client from 8.28 onwards. More details can be found on this here Plex Player app on nVidia Shield is broken - #52 by BigWheel

It has been fixed in ExoPlayer dev branch but is not yet integrated into a stable ExoPlayer release or in the Plex Android client.

This is possibly fixed in the upcoming 9.6 that you can already side load from the linked thread as of a few mins ago.
