Plex for Kodi doesn't feature photo playlists

I just came back from a longer holiday and thought it would be nice to play a slideshow with all our images on our TV. We don’t have a SmartTV, we use Kodi with the plex-for-kodi Addon instead.

Importing/categorizing all our photos with plex was an easy task and the smart-playlist feature was especially helpful dealing with this. But after everything was ready, I realized there is no option to play photo playlists in the plex for kodi addon. It just shows music playlists. And using standard photo section and navigating to a folder (for example the month of our holiday) to start the slideshow there only shows the first image, but does not start an actual slideshow, even though there is a play-, pause-, random-button that suggests this feature should be available.

I searched a little myself and apparently other players like AndroidTV, SmartTV or the web-player do feature photo playlists.

So now I’m wondering why this isn’t supported with plex for kodi? Also, is this intended or just a little bit behind in terms of development? Are there any plans to bring this feature to plex for kodi aswell?

In the meantime, does anyone have a suggestion how I could stream my photos to my raspberry pi instead, without using kodi for now? I thought about using DLNA, but I can’t find a way to access my playlists there or to find any other way how I could group my holiday photos that would be accessible when using DLNA. Other client software like Plex for Desktop or even Plex HTPC are not available for raspberry pi.
I’d really like to keep everything in terms of media management inside plex.

Yes. Plex doesn’t have the resources currently available to keep the app updated. In fact, it hasn’t been updated in several years. There are no plans to update the app at this time.
