Plex for Kodi require pass?

I a bit confused. I tried to start plex on my kodi box but it said I need a plex pass, this is $5 per month right

but then I google it and it says its not free for kodi? Its not free if I need a plex pass

The Plex for Kodi add-on does require a PlexPass subscription. No addition app purchase is required beyond the PlexPass Subscription

that sucks

Why? Those of us that are Plex Pass subscribers deserve some things as recompense for paying for the right to, if we choose, beta test some of the apps and pre-release versions of the server. From time to time the early release of the server has some nasty bugs that were missed in the in-house testing and we get to get bitten by those bugs.

Even then some bugs get into the release version but there would be more without us paying guinea pigs and we need to have some things that others don’t.

Plex is commercial software & they need to pay their developers. It’s not some Open Source amateur project created by a handful of enthusiasts (like Kodi). It’s right & proper to charge for extra functionality especially considering what is available for free.

lol kodi is not an ametuer product at all

What I thought ( and correct me if I’m wrong) is I connect connect the plex addon to kodi so I can watch my own movies from the one box ( kodi box )

The way I have my plex setup is to just stream my own movies from my own plex server. Is that what the function of the kodi plex addon is?

You can use plex kodi connect addon until the addon is no longer limited to plex pass subscriber.

Personnally i would play a one time fee for the kodi addon but not a monthly one is not something i am willing to invest considering this is the only plexpass feature i want.

Any ideas when the addon will be free?

I would pay a one time fee I have done this for the android one. When I installed the plex addon for kodi though I had to be a subscriber

I bought a plexpass lifetime a year or 2 back at a great price.
But yeh $4.99 a month for the kodi app is steep.

No one should complain about a onetime $4.99 cost for the one app.

BTW there are a couple of plex apps in Kodi - I don’t think u pay for the “other” one!

From the Kodi blog posts, the add-on should only be a PlexPass feature for a period of time while they work out any bugs/issues

Currently in Plex Pass for testing and bug fixing, the intention is for the Plex for Kodi add-on to be available to everyone as soon as we run out of planned features and don’t see any major bugs

Do others feel like we (plexpass owners) have the privilege of Paying to be the testers!!

I have stated that several times before. But it is always well to remember that the “right” to be beta testers is not all we pay for and it is not the only, or even primary, reason that I, for one, bought a Plex Pass. It is the choice of the Plex Pass people weather or not to use the beta software.

In other words the Plex Pass “right” to prerelease, or beta, software is a choice that can be made by each of us. It is a gift and a curse.

I usually choose the use the beta software but I also make sure I have a fallback should things go terribly wrong as they sometimes do.

I have mixed feelings about Plex’s model for testing but it does seem to mostly work as long as both sides are always aware of both the rewards and the risks.

One negative that comes up for me from time to time is that my dog REALLY does not like it when I yell at my Plex setup. I guess he thinks he has done something wrong when it is really Plex’s fault.

Is your dog called Plex by any chance?

Nope. He is Moses. He is a rescue dog that was on death row at the pound when I rescued him so Moses seemed kind of appropriate, … Nah, I actually just like the idea of stepping outside an yelling “Hey Moe” in my best Curly voice to call him. The neighbors are all so appreciative of my wit. (At least half of it)

But how long will it be until it is complete. Some timeline would be nice.

It’s ready, when it’s ready. Plex doesn’t give out timelines and there is no telling.

As an example if the people testing it currently find it useful as is then it can be a short time. If users find other features that would be helpful or find bugs then it goes through another cycle. When Plex feels it’s on par with other clients then they will green light it for public use.

But no one right now probably knows when that will be.

Unless it’s a horrific, fire breathing, mule sized cockroach not important enough or too hard to fix - then they just roll it out:

Actually, after testing all the various clients available on the Shield and therefore mostly those available on the Android platform in general, I can strongly recommend PlexKodiConnect. It is head and shoulders better than anything else I have tried and it is quite customable.

Of course that probably means that Plex will hire ther developer and place him in blinders and restraints to prevent further innovation.

One thing I do strongly recommend is that PlexKodiConnect be installed as a clean install as it seems to like it better that way.

The developer even seems to have realized that people might want to start a video by highlighting the poster and pressing the “play” button on their remote. That is something that seems to be beyond the understanding of most of the developers on the Android platform.

I do not think PlexKodiConnect in any way requires a Plex Pass.

It does not make my Shield or Android devices as pleasant to use as my Rokus, at least not yet, but it does move the Shield to second place.

PlexKodiConnect will never be official however as it “breaks the rules” and does things that Kodi does not like. So there is no guarantee it will continue to work in the future.

Many people use it and like it but just be aware that it’s not official and while doubtful could go “poof” one day on newer releases of Kodi since they don’t endorse it.

I dont plan on updating kodi since current version is working. Just need to be a little bit more patient until the official plugin gets released.
