Plex for LG (NetCast) or Plex for Samsung. Why is the UI so different?

I have a Samsung TV in one room and an LG in the other. The UI for Plex on the Samsung is a generation in front of the LG, but according to what I can find on the internet, the UI on the LG is the new updated UI??

I’m confused, why are they so different? And why change something that looks amazing from what I see on my Samsung to something that looks 10 years old on my LG?

There’s obviously something I’m missing here,
Can anyone explain?

Thank you :(|)

the Samsung app wasn’t created by Plex. It’s a 3rd-party creation.

Ohh…Wow… I did not know that. May I be the first one to say then that the 3rd party app for Samsung and PLAYz Media app looks a generation in-front of the official Plex app… Sorry guys :expressionless:

Would you know of any changes planned to make the UI look and feel more user friendly?

Going from a smooth UI to clunky slow UI with less options with annoying “Recently Added” in every library I go in before choosing “Browse all” is not the way forward in my eyes :-S. I personally know what I’ve recently added, i do not need a whole screen of extra windows telling me this. When I choose “Action Films”, they should all view without having to then navigate to “Browse all”… It’s nearly as bad as Windows 8.1

Agreed. What I find even more outrageous is…“recommendations”. Seriously?

Like, I went through all the steps to build this media environment for myself, collect, and then organize my content meticulously, get a plexpass. I did all this because I already know exactly what I want to watch, how I want to watch it, and when I want to watch it.

personality type (OCD about their media) = personality type (plex users)

Another one is trailers. Hmm, I can watch the trailer of the content that I already have, and probably watched at least once? Ok. Thanks, I guess.

My point is that these are “nice to haves”, they just don’t seem at the top of anyone’s list of “need to haves”.

There was actually a lot of people asking for trailers.

I think you guys fail to realize some people share their libraries with many other people, so if makes sense for those non-library-owning people to see what has been added recently.

That said, the new Plex UI is non functional, but they have stated many times in the PMP forum that they’re working on it.

Just to add a little background info to what @beckfield told you…
@Orca develops the Samsung app in his spare time and as a non Plex employee he appreciates donations for his efforts.
Anyways Plex for Samsung is based on Plex Home Theatre (appearance wise) as indeed is Rasplex.
Plex Home Theatre is no longer developed but has been picked up by the Rasplex guys. (I think!!)
So in effect if you prefer the appearance of the Samsung app your only options are the Samsung app itself or Rasplex and both are unofficial apps. Sadly Orca has already hinted that he MAY stop developing the Samsung app also. If that happens then Plex.inc will almost certainly pick up development and the UI will be close to what you see on your LG. This is based on Plex Media Player which in turn is the Plex.inc successor to Plex Home Theatre.

Hmmmm…all my purchased movies came with trailers on the media, and I can watch them on Plex any time. So, no failure on my part. But perhaps you’re thinking about the “a lot of people” who are (ahem, cough) getting and sharing content from unknown original source material?

I am not surprised that this is the case, but I am surprised that 1) they are a Plex feature priority, and 2) they feel the entitlement that they should get a preview feature as their reward.

Personally, I find the Samsung app difficult to deal with, but that may be more due to the awkward trackpad remote my friend has with her Samsung TV. It certainly looks nice, but the UI that the Plex developers are going for is just as, if not more usable.

I have so far not experienced this and the household agrees. Have you tried using the normal remote first before stating the trackpad doesn’t work correctly and the Samsung app only “looks nice”. The trackpad on the Samsung is awful no matter what app your using with the older models. Unfortunately with any device running the Plex app experience is a low level of options, sluggish response, buggy, lag in audio to video and an ugly interface. I experience non of this on my Samsung. Its like the complete opposite, like the Yin and Yang and I am able to give you countless examples.

What I’ve done is downloaded the trailers to all my films, preferably in HD. I then merge those folders together so that I can choose to play my downloaded trailer before I watch the film (720p trailer 1080p film). I’m a Plex Pass user but still find films aren’t correctly matched to their trailers.
