Plex for LG

I have the same problem. An old LG will not connect to Plex and when I change the settings Main > Fallback… to Always, it is lost when I hit Retry button. Sign In button does not work at all.
If I enter manually the server’s address on the local network and press Retry, the error appears again, and the server’s IP address is lost.
There’s a nasty workaround - enter server IP address, close settings … and in my case, a “search” button appeared in the top-left corner. I was able to go to movie search and through that to the movie list on my server.
But that’s really unusable for a regular user; each time Plex app starts up, it forgots completely the manually entered IP address and the “Allow fallback to insecure connections” values.

If you read the post like I said earlier it very clearly eludes to the fact that the issue may manifest at any point after the 30th.

Also LG Netcast was killed off by LG nearly 8 years ago. It may not be worth getting angry over something that the manufacturer decided to kill off nearly a decade ago. The last Netcast TVs were sold in 2015 making the TVs not the OS at best almost 7 years old. Were talking about the same timeframe as the release of the iPhone 6 (they are on 13 now…) and before the release of the Galaxy S6 (you probably don’t even remember that one). Invest $50 into a new Chromecast with Google TV or more into something like a Shield (on sale right now) or Apple TV and move on. If you constantly expect unwavering support for your electronics approaching a decade in age you are always going to be disappointed.

It doesn’t matter if it’s still supported or not, the culprit is the coding of the app not saving (or always defaulting) it’s config.

And I’m pretty sure, that behavior was already there, while all these devices were still supported…
Maybe they knew… maybe they were just lazy… who knows, with that lack of information by Plex employees.

So, giving the advice, to buy another waste of material in a time of scarcity of raw materials is not the almighty solution and just wrong in so many ways.

Your kidding right? Lack of support means that things will stop working, maybe that is a hard concept to grasp. LG Netcast has also lost Google Movies and TV recently and is likely on its way to losing a bunch of other stuff. Are you throwing a fit on the Google forums? Doubt it.

Did you make sure to light your torch and grab your pitchfork before your witch hunt?

Tell this to LG who decided to kill the OS we are talking about nearly a decade ago. Also take your eco warrior or whatever you are trying to say nonsense and shove it. It is neither a “waste of material” nor “wrong in so many ways” to purchase something to deal with your archaic television losing support from its manufacturer. As a matter of fact it is the eco friendly solution as the other option is to throw away your unsupported television and buy a new one.

If you are this upset about it move on. Let me know how Emby or Jellyfin treat you on that TV (hint: not well because the platform is dead).

So the Plex app not saving it’s config is the fault of LG?
And Plex employees not checking the behavior of it’s app is also the fault of LG?

I don’t want to waste my time with you anymore.

Plex has stated multiple times now that they do not provide any kind of support for apps that are not on the list of supported devices. On that page they literally state that functionality could stop at any time due to a multitude of reasons. The reason the app is not supported on Netcast is because LG killed the platform and they themselves do not support it anymore, so yes in a roundabout way it is LG’s fault, and no it is not Plex’s fault for not providing active support to an app they haven’t supported in quite some time. Plex is not averse to supporting old hardware either evidenced by the 2015 Nvidia Shield that they still support, because the device is still supported and kept up to date by its manufacturer unlike your LG TV. So if anyone here is wasting their time it is me explaining this over and over again to you.

Same problem
Server: 1.25.2.5319
Player 3.13.29

My LG TV browse without problem, netflix working. Only Plex dont working.

This is not certificate problem

Netflix and Plex are not the same thing, it is both a certificate problem and dead platform problem.

If the problem were the tv and the certificate, no internet connection would work for any application.

The tv works well with the internet and other applications including the browser.

I do not understand why you write that the problem is with the tv and that it does not have to do one thing with the other

That is not how any of this works. And I’m not going to write a novel on how it does when all the information is already in previous posts in this thread and all over the forum. A little research would go a long ways.

Ok great, you’ve said everything you wanted to say and have nothing left to contribute anymore. So please do us and yourself a favor and stop posting in this topic. Thank you.

Take the passive aggressive nonsense somewhere else. Most definitely not welcome on these forums. The reality is this topic should be closed because its nothing more then a mudslinging whine fest over something that isn’t going to change.

Your platform is not supported. By LG or Plex.

It isn’t suddenly going to be supported.

Purchase or use something that currently is supported.

There is nothing further to discuss.

Any update from Plex staff on the solution

I have downgraded plex to 1.23 on my qnap server and my lg 2014 tv started to work as before, all is connecting well with plex server. Which plex server for qnap Intel x64 wł be the newest before 30.09.2021? Where can I find this download? I want to have newest working version with my tv as possible.

Yes, same with me, just must change language in the process to save settings and get search function to work till next time i start plex client all must be done from beginning. Somahow plex doesnt store settings and reverts to dafault one on every run

FWIW, I upgraded my Plex Server (Synology) version from 1.24.5.5173 to 1.25.2.5319 and then opened the Plex Client (version 3.13.29) on my LG TV again. This now showed me the “Login” screen instead of the one I got stuck on for some time. I linked my account again (using the provided code and Link | Plex) and am now able to connect again.

We found some things this morning that should hopefully fix things for some of the old LG sets.

Please keep in mind these some of these sets are unsupported run an old version of app and we will likely not be able to fix future issues.
