Plex for PS4 struggles with AC3 5.1 Audio

I’ve noticed during my recent binge of Game of Thrones that Plex for PS4 doesn’t treat all audio equally when played through headphones connected to the PS Dualshock controller. AAC 5.1 works perfectly, exactly as you would expect, just audio being played through headphones, but AC3 5.1 is a totally different story. The audio cracks and pops regularly every few seconds, and is prone to occasionally dropping out altogether and apparently crashing my headphones, requiring me to unplug and plug my headphones in again in order to get sound back for the entire PS4 (not just Plex).

This cracking certainly isn’t a problem on other devices, like my computer, even with the same headphones plugged in, and doesn’t appear when I play the audio through the regular TV speakers. I’ve also checked the problem amongst several PS4 controllers, leading me to believe it isn’t just a faulty controller port that’s the issue, and I’ve used different headphones that all show the same problem.

This leads me to believe that there is a direct problem with the PS4 client directing AC3 5.1 audio just to headphones.

If there are any solutions or explanations to this, I would appreciate it if somebody could help me out. If anybody has any questions or problems with my methods, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help.

If this is a bug, has anybody else experienced it? And if it isn’t a bug and just an insurmountable hardware problem… I’ll be sad, I guess.

Thanks!
