Plex for Windows - every file is stuttering and lagging around

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8921
Player Version#: 1.100.1.221

I am not really sure, whats going on here…
I use Win 11 and cant run Plex anymore.
When i use MPC-BE (v1.6.11), all is fine and the files are running smooth.
When i reduce Plex from fullscreen to window, the Plex-client crashes hard…
Is Plex not ready for Win 11 or what is going on?

EDIT:
It seems, that there is a problem in conjunction with the nvidia graphics driver.
With 560.94 i get this bad stutter, with 560.70 all is fine.
So maybe the developer can check this out, whether its a driver or a plex problem…
But because MPC-BE is running smooth, it must be a Plex problem…

EDIT2:
When i reduce from fullscreen to window, the video stutters badly even with 560.70, but plex doesnt crash.
Back to fullscreen and the video is running smooth again… really strange…

EDIT3:
If in windowmode reducing the windowsize with the mouse lets plex completely crash.
The crash is so bad, that even the mouse is not working till the plex window disappears…

Does behavior change with a swapped mpv.dll?

(new and compatible mpv.dll can be found here Releases · mitzsch/mpv-winbuild · GitHub)

Can you explain, how to install these files and where?
So - downloaded the mpv-x86_64.7z and installed it.
But… same behavior… as soon as i change the windowsize, the video stops, mousecursor unresponsive, crash of plex (window closes).
Then i tried mpv-x86_64_V3 - same result - plex crashes…

EDIT:
After installing the above files, now i have this bad stutter again…
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE???
And NOW, plex crashes even when i push the Stop-Button… (lol)

EDIT2:
After re-installing the nv-driver 560.70, all is running smooth again…
Whatever is happening in the background, it seems like this has something to do with the driver.

So everything is working now?

*With newer Nvidia drivers sometimes the option “swapchain-depth=1” added to mpv.conf is needed for stutter-free playback. However, this does not lead to crashes of Plex for Windows. Regardless of being set or not.

I just updated to the Studio driver 560.81 and I can play anything just as before. DV, TrueHD etc.

What kind of GPU and CPU are in this machine?
If it’s anything below the RTX class, I’d set the video playback quality downwards under Settings - Plex for Windows - ‘Show Advanced’ - Player.
The picture filters which are used in the highest settings are quite demanding.

Its a 12700k and a 4070 Super

At the moment, the playback works fine, but its not recommended to switch from fullscreen to window - first, stutter, then crash - also with 560.70
I use PlexHTPC at the moment because there is no windowmode.

I’ve switched fullscreen several times back and forth during playback. No crashes, hangs or other issues.
Do you have audio passthrough or refresh rate switching activated?

Refresh rate switching is active
Audio normalisation is on
Audio output Autoselect
Thats all (in PlexHTPC)

I did some test with Plex for Windows and all these settings had no impact on the playback - all was stuttering.
Only the Driver fixed the playback problem - crashes are still there…
Also strange: When i start Plex for Windows, the Window itself and the whole program is lagging… is this normal?

Switching back and forth did nothing - plex only stutters when switched from FullScreen to Window Mode and then crashes, if you change the Windowsize with the mouse…
As i said: As long as Plex is at FullScreen, all is fine, IF YOU USE 560.70!

I did it just as you described.
Enter full screen, start playback, leave full screen, grab the window border and resize like crazy.
Playback continues just as before.

Could you retry after disabling refresh rate switching?

Hehe - disabled rr-switching, startet at FullScreen - running.
Switched to Windos, stutter.
Resized Window with mouse - movie stops - sound pops, plex crash… WTF…
Doesnt matter - i let it run at FullScreen with the 560.70 driver and done - its working and thats it.
Did some additional Test:
I start Plex in Window mode and then i start a Movie >>> STUTTER? THE HELL?
It only runs smooth at FullScreen…
Is there a limitation with the monitors? I use two Eizos with 1920x1200 each.
Both connected to the 4070S - one over HDMI and one over DisplayPort

See if there is a difference between the screens. Playback on the other screen and repeat the test.
I can imagine that the HDMI-connected monitor could show some peculiarities.

Already did it - no difference - plex crashes on the other monitor (with displayport) too.
Strange thing: The MPC-BE Player is working fine - also with different NV-drivers.
So this “must be” plex related…

Conclusio:
This Software is not able to play a Video in Window Mode under Win 11 24H2 >>> bullshit…
Because the Devs didnt reply, i will use an other Player for playing Videos in Window Mode…
