Ok. When I have both direct play and direct stream enabled on the Plex Windows app, I get no sound output for certain movies. Some movies I do get sound output but if the bitrate is high enough, there’s constant buffering.

With movies that don’t output audio, I disable direct play and direct stream and it’ll transcode my media, but at the expense of constant buffering and less reliable playback.

I troubleshooted with ChatGPT. We did this. I enabled SMB file share so that my network files were remotely accessible. Meaning the folders I’m using to create Plex libraries are accessible directly. So I open VLC player and play a movie I accessed remotely on my laptop, and Windows task manager shows that both of my GPUs have activity. One shows activity for 3D (iGPU) while the dGPU (Nvidia) does all of the video decoding…
My mileage varied when I went into my various browsers and played movies. They all transcoded audio and direct played video for most movies.

But the Plex for Windows app seems to either have a codec problem or something bc it’s only certain movies there’s no audio…

And yes, I purchased the 99¢ HEVC codec thing for Windows. But I’m still having issues with Plex for Windows.

And Plex for Windows, there’s 0 video decoding whatsoever. And it’s CPU heavy at 100% sometimes and GPU 100% all the time with 3D output at Max levels… Only on this laptop though. Other laptops with only one GPU running Windows, it’s fine…
