Plex for Windows (Plex 1.9) starts, but doesn't pop up, just runs in background. (Windows 10)

Hello,

As indicated in the subject, I am currently using last version of Plex Media Player without any difficulties. However this last one asks me to switch to Plex for Windows, what I do, unfortunately, when I install it, it launches without error message, a Plex icon appeared well in the taskbar and processes pane, but I do not have any plex window that appears on screen.
This is not the first version that I try to install (the 1.8 did had the same problem) and I have of course tried to uninstall and reinstall a lot of times.

Can you help me?
Thanx

Player Version#: Plex-1.9.0.1188-c009e512-x86_64

I have been having the same problem for several releases. Especially with 2 monitors. Sometime it pops up in the middle of the last used monitor, sometimes if pops up half way off my main monitor but at the top. In this case the Window Control bar across the top is not accessible and I cannot re-size or drag the window.

Using Shift-Windows and then L or R Arrow will usually bring it back to somewhere that you can grab the window. This is supposed to fully move a window to the other screen but for Plex sometimes it moves fully and other times it only moves partly and the PLEX Window is spread over 2 windows.

In general PLEX has done a crappy job of window management with issues like this or entering/exiting full screen and also understanding if my PC is in Tablet mode or not.

@ottonax we need to figure out how you got the 1.9 update. It’s currently in beta. The behavior your described was fixed last night but, it’s all in beta. It shouldn’t have been downloaded for you.

:psyduck_confusion:

@deactivated , it’s an excelent question, but since I’m Plex Pass, I have no reason to download anywhere else than the public section of your site…
By the way, right now, here is what your site proposes me to download (https://www.plex.tv/fr/media-server-downloads/#plex-app):
Windows 10 or later (64-bit only).

Moreover I am happy to see that it is not my computer the concern, I was wondering because I have several computers and on another one where I installed this same version, I had no problem.
In the end, for the moment, I am obliged to continue using Plex Media Player on my ā€œmain computerā€ despite your ā€œwarningsā€ asking me to use Plex for Windows.

@loboent, thanx for your ideas, I use effectively 2 screens, unfortunately, your ideas although very judicious, do not correct me the problems encountered.

I’m having the exact same problem.

See my other post on this issue. Try shaking a window to minimize everything, and then shake that window again to maximize everything. That ā€˜unstuck’ the Plex window for me.

OK but I don’t even have an open Plex window or anything, just a the Plex icon in the taskbar and nothing else…

Open a couple Explorer windows, a web browser, whatever. Are you familiar with the Aero Shake feature where you grab a window by its title bar and quickly shake it to minimize all open windows to the task bar? Then doing it again will re-open them? That’s what got my Plex app window to finally open up from the task bar.

Yes, that’s what I did…

Bummer - the aero shake worked for me and someone else. You must have a different issue.

Then I suggest you keep using it:

Yes - the link is ā€˜hidden’.
Yes - PMP is still getting updates.
Yes - PMP will be around - for now - until something happens - if it happens:

^^then that will happen (again) - and we’ll all see what happens next.

I run and use both PMP and PfWhatever and use them both when needed.

If PfWhatever has a bug, Matt and the boys will fix it, but you don’t have to use it if you’d rather not… but you can.

I’m super late back to this thread. The 1.9.0 that bombed on your machine was an accidental leak of our alpha testing build. :grimacing::flushed:

A true 1.9.0 is out now that is safe for usage.

You guys better have a close look at the Player in PMP.
It’s got ā€˜the jerks’ and they’re getting worse, not better.

Also the ā€˜recent and troublesome’ 265 encodes that won’t play on hardly anything, play great in PfW - but fail miserably in PMP.

I don’t have time right now to chase this, but if you don’t come up with a reproduction, or other member help - we’ll go there when I get some free time.

Just a head’s up.

Will they ever fix touch support or what?!!!

Hello mattseeley,
I’m sorry to tell you that the new version published recently and that I simply downloaded from your site, still doesn’t work :frowning:
Exactly the same symptoms.

This issue was caused by an outdated video driver on one of my computers. Updated to the latest Nvidia driver and now it’s working.

Suddenly this morning having this exact issue, which I have never had previously. Nvidia drivers are up to date. Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks

Update - complete uninstall, then reinstall following reboot, of both Plex for Windows and PMP, has solved this issue. Back to regulary scheduled programming please and sorry for Saturday interruption.
