Plex for windows stuttering

For myself, it’s only the very latest update that has issues on my W10 PC with a 4K monitor, some 4 core i7 from 5 years ago, GT1030 GPU (which has never liked 4K that much but I use my TV for that).

Aside from that, where can we download an older version? The announcements thread says it’s been removed, but I still see 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099 as available to download (plex pass on/off).

Someone dug up the link to version 1.33 here: https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.33.0.2444-a220eae4/windows/Plex-1.33.0.2444-a220eae4-x86_64.exe

I just dug up my old 1.31 installer from 6 months ago (the app never updated before today) and ran that. Seems to have reverted just fine.

The downloads page has been fixed and you can find 1.33 there.

I have the same issue with Plex-1.34.1.2601.

Not really…

It is but you need to toggle off plex pass downloads

Oh, I see that now.
So we pay and we got the bugged version…LOL

@Lafferlaffer Did you install that over the previous 1.34.1 build? That won’t work. You need a fresh install.

1.34.1.2601 is a new version with a fix (or attempted fix). Make sure to uninstall first if you were running the earlier bugged version of 1.34.

Thank you, the new update runs awful regardless of specs. Not sure what happened but it doesn’t seem to matter what your specs are

I uninstalled the Plex player and reinstalled the new 1.34.1.2601.
It looks more responsive right now. I’ll keep testing.

where is the 1.34.1.2601 download link?

i have Version 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099

granted my pc is 6 years old (i7 4770k, 16gb ram, 780gtx), but the new windows plex app is almost unusable while navigating within the app or editing metadata for content. playback is fine though.

fwiw though, using the same app on my plex server (ryzen 2700x, 32gb ram, p2000) the app is butter smooth (old vs. modern hardware stacks though).

A new test build is available to address the stuttering issue.

Hi.

So I downloaded and installed it a few hours after you’ve posted the link.
The app has gotten significantly better with load times (its still not as good as the old one). Shows and posters are loading better and faster too.

Will keep you updated if i face any bugs.

FYI: I’ve upgraded to the new ‘official’ 1.35.1 build now and the stuttering I observed with 1.34.1 is gone.

So, yesterday it automaticaly updated to : Version 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78

it installed thru powershell/poweruser that was the description and the icon on the installer, but i still have some problems.

Now the player works almost fine but in time it loads my computer, all other apps start to load harder, ie.: Mozilla Firefox is loading hard while playing a movie on Plex Player and from time to time the player stutters and skips frames ( with other versions this thing worked well).

What can i do ?

I use latest Windows 10 : build 10.0.19043.1237

This has been an issue on and off for the last year. The current version is fixed the same way it could be fixed other times, by setting %localappdata%\Plex\plex.ini to read only.

Don’t do it while Plex for Windows is running though, because it’s frantically deleting and recreating the file. Do it while it’s off so you can set it to read-only before it deletes and recreates it. Or have the folder up while you are watching a video stutter to see how that file is an issue.

Hi,
after the update to the version 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78 my plex lag if i play a movie in my second monitor, no lag in the main laptop screen. If i open the browser version of plex in the second monitor no lag.
I tried uninstall an reinstall but no change.
What can i do?

Thanks

This does not resolve the issue for me. Doesn’t matter which monitor I run Plex on.

Plex v1.35.1.2632-c6783c78
Windows 10 Pro 21H1 19043.1237
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

I have many machines here and Smart TV’s. I have a Ryzen 5950X 64GB GSkill 3200Mhz Ram, 1TB Samsung 870 PRO main C drive, and Sapphire RX590 8GB. , Ryzen 3950X with same specs as the 5950x. Ryzen 2700X 32GB of ram, 2 Ryzen 2400G’s, Ryzen 1700x running my server. 2 Samsung Smart TV’s (within 3 yrs old)…

Plex is laggy on my main machine and every other machine. Movies and stuff play fine but popping up the UI is ridiculously slow. I mean, my 2 main machines sit idle at ~3% for most stuff I do - they are beasts of a machine. BUT, the Plex UI while playing any movie is so slow to pop up it is annoying. Trying to adjust the volume and I hover my mouse and it just keeps playing the movie… regardless if it’s on my 4K main monitor, or any of my 4 x 29" side screens (1920x1080)… it’s slow… eventually the UI pops up.

Hmmm… I just tried it now… it actually seems to be responsive right now… interesting… maybe the update the other day actually fixed it… didn’t notice it was fixed till now… will keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if it acts up again…

Only reason I am (continuing to keep) replying was to add my system specs to the list of people having issues in the hopes of finding the problem or narrowing down hardware specs or Windows 10 versions. I am running the newest Win 10 on all machines except my 2 high end machines which are running Win 10 v2004 x64.

Love Plex. Keep up the good work everyone
