Due to a recent reset (Surface Pro), I’ve been forced to switch from the Plex UWP app to the “new” Plex for Windows app. I can’t speak for the underlying code and engines, but the user interface is a nightmare. It’s super laggy, the animations look awful (rather than fade in/out, it’s like they just go through two steps of grey), and it doesn’t support touch! Apart from the ability to download files, you seem to be better off using the website (unless that’s the intention??).
I’ve been a huge fan of Plex for many, many years. I have a lifetime PlexPass. But what they’ve done to Plex on Windows is a massive disappointment. I can’t believe they removed the existing apps to provide what is essentially something in beta stage.
I fully understand you. I own 3 devices where i use plex the most on.
My Win10 HTPC with PMP: Simply the best way to play everything with hardware decoding on nvdia gpu.
My Surface 3 Pro with UWP App: This is my main notebook. I usually sync tv-shows and movies to it for on the go.
My Android tablet with the Android App.
So at the end of the last year they just killed my whole Plex Experiance. I now use the Android Tablet on the go. This works well, but Android is limited on my usual workflow.
This leaves me as a PlexPass Owner very dissapointed.
I heavily use the Sync feature on my laptop an mobile devices. And Windows based touch devices or notebooks are now just threated as Players. But they are also mobile players.
And not everybody has as dataplan to be able to stream with.
Also not every mobile win10 has a mobile modem.
And to make it even worse they just killed the PMP with this WebWrapping ugly app. What shall i do with this a on a 55" TV Screen? Everything is tiny and not remote optimized.
This is very dissapointing. I use the old PMP as long as it works and regularly check for updates on the new one and look how it develops. But everything i have seen until now is just unusable.
So i totally understand you and would love to have the UWP app back! And the PMP
You make it sound like PMP is actually dead. Admittedly it’s no longer advertised on the main download page… but you can still download it from the release announcement section (it’s also not dead as there’s still updated):
Thats true. And i hope they provide it and update it untill they improved Plex for WIndows App.
But is their no plan for the windows touch users?
And how about the Surface pro X owners? This is a very sexy device and i thought about replacing my surface pro 3 and Android Tablet with it. But until their is no plex app with sync that will never happen.
The UWP App would have worked out for me…
