The new Plex player for Windows is essentially a beta version and lacks many of the features of the old Windows App (proper touch support, sync custom number of episodes, transcode before sync, won’t install without administrator rights, having to use a symlink to change download location, etc).
As such, how long will the support last for the UWP Windows App?
I haven’t seen any comment on this but the old app seems to have disappeared from the Windows store and support issues seem to be getting ignored so I am concerned that they are getting rid of the old app without a working replacement…
you can still get the app from your library in the store if you want to (I saw it the other day). That said, given the UWP app has not seen any updates in the last 2.5 years, I wouldn’t hold get my hopes up in getting any updates.
Some other threads:
Until the new player is able to transcode and work properly with touch it’s useless for me. Where I used to be able to synchronise enough movies and TV shows for a lengthy trip away you now have to pick and choose based on file size. Accidentally sync a couple of 4k movies and you’ve suddenly filled 100GB of your SD card. It’s simply not fit for purpose.
To be honest I don’t really understand the point of the new player at all. It’s clearly not designed for mobile/laptop use as the sync feature is broken. It’s also not for htpc use as the controls don’t work. It basically just seems to be a wrapper for the web interface.
