Plex for Windows won't stay maximized

Player Version#: 1.43.3.2951-1d73e3f3

Plex for Windows will not stay maximized in either Windows 10 or Windows 11, even if changing the shortcut properties from “Normal window” to “Maximized.” Also tried Ctrl+clicking the maximize button at the top right of the window, and maximizing, closing, and then re-opening the window. The program always opens in a normal window no matter what. Any help would be appreciated or, if necessary, a fix in the next version.

Thanks!

Workaround: use the “fullscreen” icon at the top.

You will need to use keyboard combos to perform task switching (Alt+Tab) and closing the app (Alt+F4).

I appreciate the help and the suggestion, I really, really, do, but it’s not exactly a solution to the problem and actually makes things slightly more difficult. Sorry if I’m coming off as ungrateful.

Yes, I think Panzi is talking about when first opening the app. It will not remember to open maximized after closing the app and then reopening. It started doing this a couple versions ago. There is another post about this issue from several days ago.

edit 2: I see what Otto means now. If you open the app and then immediately click the full screen button circled in the picture it will go full screen. You can’t minimize it to the taskbar but you can use the function key to close it. It will open full screen next time you open it, but not a maximized window.

As @dweagle79 pointed to my post in the other thread, I’d like to add here, the fullscreen button is no option in my case as it is way off the screen… half the screen size.
I can start to play some video, which then plays half the video on half of the screen and then use double click to get out of fullscreen mode. Or I can use standard browser keyboard shortcut F11 to switch to full screen. That’s also no real option, as depending on my seating I do not have the keyboard at hand.

This is al l new behavior since a few versions (and the recent last update did not change anything in this regard).

One more in this realm, which annoys me maybe even more (because the above is mostly a starting issue for me), the Plex Player swallows the first click on the window, when it is inactive. So first click only activates the window and then one need to click another time to trigger the desired action. This is counter intuitive. Not many applications behave like this. And this was not the behavior of Plex Player in the past. Another change, I find quite annoying.

Adding on top the dreaded new search these last updates for me personally went into the completely wrong direction. For me it did not improve at all, not in a single way, but instead deteriorated in multiple ways. That’s a bit unusual for software and customer service to be honest.

Having the exact same problem here, it’s been more than a month and several releases, still not fixed, the only provided solution seems to “Enter Full Screen”, is this another “Apple” you are using it wrong thing?
