It seems to me the Plex forums have attracted a bunch of spammers and scammers with its rising popularity. Posts with clear spam are popping up every day now. Usually about 12 or so per day. I don't know who's stupid enough to fall for spam anyway and who has the time to come up with these scams full of nonsensical ramblings, but I'm sure you will all agree that spam is annoying as hell and that the moderators in these forums should
A ) prevent spammers and spam
B ) delete spam posts
and C ) ban the IPs of caught spammers
If you see any of these posts pop up, report them and their member pages to the moderators so that they are dealt with ("Report" link next to "Edit" on the bottom right).
And you don't think the mods do any of those things now? Honestly the spam here is pretty tame compared to some forums I'm on. This would be a decent post if you had some real constructive ideas to post rather than the things the mods have been and will continue to do. Report the posts and the mods will remove it the first chance they get. Banning IPs comes with its own issues in our world of dynamic addressing. It may very well be that dhcp changes the ip address to a valid user and then they will be blocked, so you have to be careful in this (the reverse also being true, chances are even if you block the ip address they will have a different one next time).
To add - the subject was discussed with the Plex Team in several PlexPASS topics before and as adamskoog indicated the suggested actions are already being done. The spammer must be using different IP Addresses all the time.
The spammers that are getting through not only are on different IP's (however we cant ban by IP as that may cause issues for legit users) but also different email addresses, we are always looking at ways of mitigating spam to users and the forums. This is not a situation we are all just content with what we have. However as stated if you see something say something, if you mark it we will get a notification and can immediately take care of it.
The almost daily spam posts are getting really annoying now. It's always the same guy from India, and he always spams about the same things, with the same phone numbers. Can't you just block or filter these phone numbers he advertises, or the words "black voodoo" and "get your ex back" and things?
First off, sorry that they upset you so much, not sure why they do, they are usually taken down quite quickly, and it's not the same "person", however if this issue alone is enough for you to not stay a part of the plex community, you will always be welcome back when you're ready.
Well Monsieur it is definitely not a nice thing to wake up to every morning where often the new topics screens shows 2 real topics and rest all spam - clicking on report gets them deleted but it is just very annoying to start to such a screen every morning
There are pretty good automatic measures now. And of course moderators and admins are distributed around the world so there is a pretty short reaction time if something gets through now and then.
