Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319 on Synology DSM 7 (updatet yesterday)
Player Version#: Panasonic Smart TV
During 40 minutes the playback had to be restarted 8 times due to stuck.
The problem existed about 2 years ago and was fixed at some point without a server update.
Now it’s back, unfortunately. Watching the Plex became unbearable and unusable after just one episode of a series.
Can you downgrade the DSM back from 7 to 6 and also Plex?
That was the biggest mistake you could make again to update something even 6 months after a release.
I am having the exact same issue! the apple tv says ‘your connection isn’t fast enough blah blah blah’. Everything was running perfect until i updated a day ago.
I’m trying very hard to roll back to a previous install but i dont know what the previous version was and where to get it.
As already mentioned there was the same problem about 2 years ago which was suddenly fixed by Plex. Before upgrading Synology to DSM 7.01 and Plex, it worked.
A debug was added, the problem definitely only occurs on the Smart TV. A test on a notebook ran for 2 hours without any problems.
SmartTV: Error message after about 1 minute. Wait: an unexpected playback problem occurred
but now I’m curious whether the problem can be fixed and how fit the coder is. Panasonic_TX-55GZC1004.txt (190.8 KB)
I will be sincere but direct. I don’t particularly care for the comment.
Trotz, We will continue.
Writing a program to be resident in the TV, operate within the physical limitations of the RAM and processor while correctly processing
asynchronous user events (remote buttons)
Requesting, receiving, decoding, buffering multiple seconds of video at all rates & resolutions.
Feeding the audio and video streams to the native TV’s playback engine, in sync
Is not an easy task.
Before saying “Netflix does it”, consider that Netflix does not
stream a full range of bit rates and audio codecs.
does not perform on-demand transcoding. Netflix preprocesses all their video and stores it in ready-to-play format.
does not give you the ability to control your playback experience. You get whichever stream fits within the available bandwidth - up to about 40 Mbps if you’re lucky for both 2160p HDR DV and the accompanying audio and subtitles.
To the matter at hand,
Synology is not presenting the HW transcoding hardware here. The J4025 is fully QSV capable.
Either there is something in how this video is encoded causing the failure or DSM suddenly went to lunch.

What should be seen is where the transcoder sees the hardware but , when subtitles are involved, does not use if with subtitles.
Steps to resolving.
Step 1
Download these independent test files H264 and HEVC 10 bit up to 50 Mbps.
before updating Plex from DSM7 it worked correctly.
As mentioned, the problem only exists with the smart TV. The Notebook works corecctly.
(As mentioned, the problem only exists with the smart TV. )
I will de-install and reinstall plex again and test it again with the specified sample.
I am having the same stutter/caching issue. In fact, I have 3 PLEX servers pulling the same media from the same Synology DS1520+ NAS and only the Synology NAS PLEX server shows the stutters for the exact same media files. My other 2 servers are actually pretty old, but no issues at all. One is on an older WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra NAS and the other one is my aging desktop with an Intel i5 6th Gen CPU.
I just purchased my Synology NAS and these killer Seagate Exos X18 16TB Enterprise HDD’s to go in it and am happy with everything except the PLEX server performance on it. I even have a Jellyfin server running on Docker on this Synology NAS (again, same media files) and it’s incredibly fast.
I can’t wait to try anything ChuckPa here suggests. And you, sir, are revered in other places for you incredible work. I was sent here by syman from the Synology forums and specifically told to check with you. So thanks in advance!

I noticed ruckers only 1-2 within a series of good wife and they were about 1 sec. Long.
The complete crashes are partly variable.
As you may have seen, this is a relatively low bit rate for this series.
Hi
I’m sorry, I don’t understand the MediaInfo Tool?
Where can I find this and what exactly should I do with it?
4 days ago I watched the previous episodes with this version on the same device, I’m currently testing again with the episodes I have already seen.
Yes seen a few days ago Files (videos) no longer work.
I’ve tried a couple of media files this was happening with and now, I can’t replicate the issue. It seems to happen only at night when perhaps my home network is more congested? I do remember reading the first time I used items from this server in my TV client that this wasn’t playing directly or something like that. I just clicked OK. How do I make sure I’m playing the media files directly and not over the internet? I don’t even know if that question made sense (sorry).
