Logs show no entries regarding the Plex startup.

Hello All,

on my DS218+ the Plex Media Server suddenly stopped working. I’m not sure what i did. Maybe there was an update, maybe it has something to do that i added a second disk to the NAS.

The logs (Protocol Center) don’t show any entries relatet to Plex. I already downloaded the newest version here and used it.

I also went through the process described to an unfriendly user here:

and accessed the DiskStation via SSH to start Plex manually. Everything looks fine, no exception /error / warning is shown during the startup.

But none of my devices can reach the Plex Media Server.

According to the Synology Packet Manager, Plex Media Server is running fine!

I’m running out of ideas what to do…

When you read until here, thank you already. Any suggestions what i can try next?

Plex become worse & worse with time…
I suffer too with the latestssss releases
today my plex server crashed/stop and I restart it.
Lot of buffering with movie that was working fine in previous version of Plex.
I downloaded and installed the latest 1.19.1.2589 and now I’m falling on more problems.
Even the Media Player for Windows is now problematic , my movie stop each 5 sec (directPlay picture & sound) & no trace at all into my dashboard about some buffering.
Comon PLEX, more we go in new release, less Plex become attractiv and show issues.
I got another plex server with 1.14.1.5488 that give me fully satisfaction but now Plex.tv service relay decided to force a minimum release 1.15.2… that I really don’t want to go as I see now from many months soooo many problems starting this release.
I tried to go back to 1.15.4 with the other one now in 1.19 but the synology don’t accept it.

I’m stock now with 1 server considered as obsolete by Plex and a second one that don’t work as espected.

May I have the PMS logs (either downloaded from PMS as a ZIP file) or manually downloaded from DSM through FileStation as a ZIP ?

Your logs show me you’re trying to burn subtitles and transcode audio on an Atom C2538 CPU. This CPU doesn’t have that kind of performance. It can DirectPlay and DirectStream (at best). It does not have the power to burn subtitles.
It also has no Transcoding hardware to assist in this. ( I have the same CPU in my DS1815+

Would you mind creating a cleanly visible test case for me?

I want to follow exactly what you are seeing.

  1. Restart Plex
  2. Wait 1 minute for it to stabilize
  3. Start the playback again of the example you show above.
  4. Play until it falters and then recovers.
  5. Stop the playback
  6. Download and attach the logs.

and I checked my routeur wan usage …the HTTPS Stream don’t goes up than 11Mbps

The movie started automaticely as transcoded @2MBps but few second after I switched to Original Quality & the buffering apaird after few seconds

I’m seeing a few things in your logs. May we address them first?
One of these might very well be why you’re seeing the problem you are.

  1. Maintenance issue – Plex does not have permission to see some files

What is the actual network topology here?
How much is wired and how much is WiFi ?
Where are the other routers?

The IP addresses I’m seeing are public-routable which means PMS (and the player) is going to use “Remote Streaming” bitrate settings by default (unless you change the default setting ).

TY supermounter for taking over my topic.

Though reading through your performance problems :sleeping:, i figured out where i can find the Plex logs.

I had Plex set to only allow secure connections, now i figured out, my TV and the default Synology DiskStation settings don’t redirect there. Thats why i didn’t find any error messages and the service starup showed success.

Hi @ChuckPa, sorry for the late reply, I was little down as I catched this Bsh…COVID19 + one of my Nas lost a big volume due to a dirty reboot. But now Nas volume is back and me too :slight_smile:
thanks for this thread owner change.

To reply to your latest questions
Network topo is really a simple structure
Nas with 2 link not agreated to a switch directly connected to the router/gateway
Client connected remotely to the Nas VPN.
All are wired.

setting IP wan treath as local and no bitrate limitation.
ISP band give speedtest 278Mb/s in & 28Mb/s out.

I seen into synology package manager, they are now offering the ver. 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238
but I don’t know if this a 64bit version or 32, no mention of it into the package manager.
I’m thinking to update my Old plex server 1.14.1.5488 that is working smoothly well with all my clients devices but don’t give me anymore the dashboard situation and can’t be remotely/relayed connected with plex.tv. I’m really afraid to loose this stable version if I update it with the Synology Proposition. Any advise about this ?
