Plex Freezing When Editing My Music Library

1.21.3.4021.5a0a3e4b2:
Synology 918+

Hi

I have plex (1.21.3.4021.5a0a3e4b2) installed on a Synology DS918+ NAS.
I access plex on my PC (windows 7, i5, 8GM ram, Firefox).
My library are all music (flac).

Over the past weeks when I edit album art or albums with more than 1 CDs that have loaded as 1 CD, the system freezes after a few actions, unfreezes after 1-3 minutes and then just continues to repeat this cycle, which obviously makes editing extremly labourious and frustrating!

I tried using a different browser also using a different computer but with the same problems resulting as above. The problem I believe may be associated with the size of my library or a corrupted plex database!

I attach plex log files from yesterday and would really appreciate if you could have a look at these and perhaps define my problem and if it is related to plex, how I can resolve same.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance.

Thanks for the prompt response…

I do use Mp3Tag for tagging and all music files are are properly tag as you show in your response, including disc numbers. Multiple CD are mainly tagged for double CDs as 1/2 & 2/2 and for a four disc collection 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4…

In relation to my actual folders I have used the following for filing:

/Media
/Music
/Natalie Cole
/2003 - Anthology (2CD)-eFLAC
/CD1

  1. This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)
  2. Inseperable
    /CD2
  3. Something’s Got a Hold on Me (live)
  4. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds (live)

/2016 - Our Love Is Here to Stay (Live RM)-wFLACt

  1. Easy Does It
  2. Route 66

which is not just exactly as you have stated. Can I ask you to clarify if
I must put under Artist, “Artist - Album” rather than just the name of the Album? I also insert the year in naming albums and also the file type ‘FLAC’ which are important.

Note: the actual files for my music show track no. Name of track

ie. 01. Sound of Music.flac.

Obviously, this is a major issue for me as to rename all the files is a very major undertaking at this time which I would be reluctant to start.

In relation to the system freezing up, this only started to happen a few weeks ago. Before then I had no issues adding album art, artist Art as plex is set to use embedded tags only.

I appreciate your assistance with my issues…

I tried the repair option that you outlined but I now feel it is best to start over and recheck all files and start a new Clean Install of Ples Media Server on my Nas.

Can I assume that if I uninstall PLEX and delete the PLEX folder on my NAS, reboot and reinstall Plex I back to a clean beginning?

I am pre checking all albums with PLEX on my PC before I file them in my NAS Library and I am only using my embedded tags. This has created a slight issue in that I am getting no ‘Artists’ Photos! I guess this is because I have chosen embedded data.

Is there a setting that would bring up these ‘Artist’ photos automatically?

Hi

I have followed your guide lines on naming album folder and file structures and also embedded tags. After uninstalling Plex and deleting the Plex folders and data bases I reinstalled Plex and started from scratch with sorted out many problems.

However, I have had some issues when I add a different version of the same album as Plex tends to consolidate them into one! These are mainly older releases that have been remastered or have bonus tracks added. Or in some instances and album released as a part of a box set. An example would be the Eagles Legacy Box. I have named and tagged these as {Legacy RM} but encountered some consolidations with previous releases.

I can’t find anything relation to Multi-Version albums on the forum. Can I ask you to point me in the right direction.

Thank you for all your assistance to date.

Thanks Again. Your ongoing help is really appreciated.

When rebuilding my Music Library from scratch, I started with my Various Artists (VA) Albums and renamed as recommended and edited Tags accordingly. I loaded these on PLEX on my PC to check that they were being loaded correctly and in 99% the results were excellent. I then moved these to PLEX on my NAS (Synology) and allowed PLEX on Nas to scan rebuild my VA Albums.

I repeated the above taking approx 75 albums at a time to PLEX PC and then when checked to PLEX on NAS.

Before & After moving files on both PC & NAS, I ‘Cleaned Bundles’ and ‘Optimized’ my PLEX Data bases.

When finished I discovered all the Various Artists Albums came up with the Artist’s name ‘Ma Rooney’ although I have only two albums under that name. It would seem to me that the data base may be corrupted.

I have since moved my Various Artists folder out of my main Album folder to a separate folder. I am now considering setting up this folder as a separate Library on PLEX.

I don’t want to proceed just yet and I would thus welcome your assistance in advising me what happened to my VA albums and if there is a solution apart from my consideration above.

Regards

Jas
