Plex from Synology Store?

Hi, just a friendly question on why we have to upgrade Plex every time manually when all other apps auto update on Synology.

Thanks

Thanks, that’s what I’m doing since the last years, but I wonder how this could be optimized. I mean it is not very user friendly… and I wonder how many old versions are out there…

What a pitty. Thanks anyways for your swift reply.

What about support a 3rd party Repository?

PONG

  1. Don’t use the Synology Package Center offered version. It’s GROSSLY out of date. The DSM 7 BETA version is INCOMPATIBLE now that DSM 7.0-41890 and DSM 7.0.1 have been released

  2. I’m working on something and trying to stand up my own so I can learn. Don’t yet have anything which is noteworthy. I’ve made a lot of progress within the last month.

  3. Give me time. This is something I must figure out concurrently with all my other support and development duties.

out of interest, who is it that publishes the plex package on the synology package centre?

do plex submit it to the store? or has synology taken it upon themselves to add to the package centre without input from plex?

i’ve often wondered why the version in the package centre is grossly out of date.

Synology publishes all content in their Package Center.

They completely curate all packages which are listed.

All packages must pass their by-hand testing before being accepted.

We’ve always submitted the updated packages to them. Historically, they only updated Plex when it was completely broken (too old) and they got a lot of tech support complaints.

I’m trying to get DSM 7 updated so that broken beta will go away.
In order to do that, I now must address something they don’t like with the DSM 6 package – something which has been the way it is for the past few years – Now they want it changed.

Thanks @ChuckPa for the Pong

Sorry I’m not sure if I understood you correctly. Does 2 mean you are working on the 3rd Party repository ? It might also be possible to hook into one existing 3rd Party repository … I guess  If this speeds up things ? Not sure if you really need/want to host your own.

yeah that’s what i meant, you submit it to them and they publish it (same as apple and android stores) rather than them just adding themselves without any plex involvement.

why don’t you get them to pull it from the package centre - saves confusion i would have though.

@PurPerPlex

I’m working on a possible solution.

I’d rather not get anyone’s hopes up because it’s still early and there are a lot of details to work out (silly things like DSM 6 vs DSM 7, etc etc)

I don’t know if it will all pan out and be viable but I’m on the path

Thanks @ChuckPa let me know if you need test pilots
