I have a Synology DS214play with the latest software update (version DSM 5.1-5022) installed. On this NAS, I have installed the Plex Media Server (version 0.9.9.12.504-3e7f93c) using Synology's Package Center (I did not upload any .spk file to the Package Center manually). I recently noticed that several new versions of the PMS have been released, but when I click the "Update" button in the Package Center, it keeps telling me that "All packages are up-to-date." despite that there are several new releases.
Has Plex stopped publishing PMS packages to Synology's Package Center?
If no, when will the new packages of the Media Server be published to Synology's Package Center so that I can update my NAS?
Don't expect Synology to have the latest PMS version in their catalog. You can download the latest version from here (DS214play uses the Intel package) and install, using "manual install" in the Syno. Your database will be preserved, no need to rebuild it.
I contacted Synology's support earlier regarding this matter, and their response was:
Unfortunately, we do not provide that package, it is updated by Plex themselves. So if the updated version isn't available on our Package Centre I can only apologise and ask for you to contact Plex directly.
I can install the updated version manually like you suggest, but I prefer the managed version if I know that there is one coming?
According to the PMS download archive ( https://plex.tv/downloads/1/archive ) the 0.9.9.12 version was released about a half year ago (17th June last year). Is there any reason why Plex does not publish its releases to the Synology Package Center more often?
Changing the trust level to "any publisher" is the major reason why I prefer that Plex publish their releases to Synology so they can be downloaded from the Package Center directly instead of me installing them manually.
my Plex on Synology is still stuck at version 0.9.16.3.1840 even though the current version seems to be 1.4.1. Why isn’t Plex pushing any new versions to the Package Center anymore?

The Package Center is controlled by Synology, not by Plex. That is why you always have to manually install the latest Plex version after downloading it from the Plex website.
Are you saying that Synology from time to time (and very infrequently) is pulling a version of Plex on their own and publishing it to their Package Center without contacting the Plex devs? Sounds quite odd…
I’m working on creating a repository.
I also need to create proper repositories for those other NAS products which support them.
When all are minimally testable and stable, I will have more to say.
I have a Synology DS218+ and I was able to update Plex with the latest version manually but not any more. Every time I download the latest version from Plex, I go to manual install and then I get an “operation failed” error message.
So, if I want to use the 64 bit version and use the Manual Install feature, I will need to remove the 32 bit that I installed through Synology’s Package Center, am I right?
Is there a way to keep my settings as they are right now, uninstall Plex and then manually install it on my Synology?
Don’t worry about losing metadata or any of your settings. When the installer runs, it creates the Plex share for your metadata. It keeps the program code elsewhere.
When the package is uninstalled, I don’t delete the Plex share. I did it this way because Synology doesn’t allow us to downgrade a package
When the installer does run, if the Plex share already exists, I attach to it and use it
