@markus101 was the last maintainer for lg webOS 3.0+, last update june/2025
My suggestion to all of you – go get yourself Nvidia Shield Pro, the UI is fine there (much better tan Tizen), no transcoding, understands pretty much all the formats, except of HDR10+, but HRD10 is fine. If connected to a decent soundbar you’ll get all DTS formats and TrueHD. I’ve been fighting Tizen app for years, but just gave up and I am terribly sorry I didn’t do that earlier.
I know that a lot of people are having issues with the app on LG webOS TV, I did too with an older 2017 model.
But recently I upgraded the TV to an LG C4, and to my surprise the Plex app works flawless (knock on wood). I normally stream 4K content with 20-25Mbps bitrate, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and have no issues whatsoever with Direct Play all the time.
And the UI is pretty fast, maybe not to the level of Netflix but I’d say almost there, at least for me. Just hope it stays this way ![]()
I concur with this. Real pain having another box and I do have to lock the Shield down with additional software (kids!) but it’s a fantastic streamer.
Agreed with this too. My older 2016 LG Plex app was always bad in the menus (for about 3-4 years), but it did stream most formats OK, with some transcoding.
My 2020 LG is sluggish but certainly faster than the 2016 (CPU I guess). My new OLED B series is pretty good to be fair. But still slower than the Shield.
I think the OLED may have a 1Gbps Ethernet port, which seems to help with any stuttering on 4K media from the Plex server that I used to have.
Sorry to be blank, but Plex for LG sucks for a long while
I’m getting really tired the last months for plex “fu(king up” (like the recent beta updates/public release) or doing nothing at all like with the LG App
sorry, had to blast around a bit ![]()
Any news or anything @OttoKerner as hopefully you can give us something ![]()
I have LG C9 and only Plex client is slow and laggy others (YouTube, Netflix) works fine. So the problem for sure is that this app is poorly designed. And now I’m specifically hurt by their ignorance. Ignoring will lead to lose people trust….
@sLumpy glad to see your back hopefully thats good news
can you expand though on the update from 4 days ago please.. what bugs were fixed and what improvements
thanks
Version: 5.94.1
Platforms: Samsung 2016+ Televisions
FIXED:
- Minor bug fixes and improvements
Same “update” for LG webOS 3.0+
Noticed anything different or better @Red-Naxela ?
According to my feeling, no…
What do you think - now that Plex today said that it is increasing the price of its Lifetime Plex Pass option to $750, which is a $500 increase from the current $250 price tag, will they now have the money to finally patch the incredibly slow Plex app?
You really don’t have to worry about that, because they are actively working on this at the moment, and there will be more info in the future and this is their number one priority.

I never understood the appeal of smart TVs… AFAIK, Plex is WAY smaller than Tubi, YouTube or Netflix. People cannot expect that Plex will maintain an application on every single video game consoles and devices… I personally recommend people to buy a used Chromecast with Google TV dongle or the new “Streamer” thingy they made… Aside from 4K UHD content which often requires Plezy for smooth playback (which is available on the device’s app store), the experience is quite good.
I’m sure more people here can recommend other devices
…
I just looked into it, and it seems you can build an HTPC on a Raspberry Pi… I don’t know how viable this is, but it’s something to consider.
@philippemorin123
I’m no coder, but to my knowledge for most of the backendlogics, not UI-specific, the code is portable through many different devices…
UI and input-specific functions vary of course, and other things
But nevertheless, before Plex overhauled and tried to improve with the “new Plex experience”, there was much better upkeeping and more frequent updates!
If you look at the LG webOS 3.0+ thread for example:
- 2024: 13 (!!) updates
- 2025: 7 months later, after the last update in november '24, 1 update
- 2026: 9 months later, 1 update
And those updates in 2025+2026 were not really big changes, although I much appreciate the AV1 support…
