Plex having issues casting to SONOS

I am experiencing difficulties casting to Sonos. Doesn’t matter which method I use. Direct from Plex, from IOS or my MacMini. It’s an intermittent error. Some song plays other just skip.

Any thoughts how to solve this? My IP address is blanked out but this is my IP address for remote access so means it’s not casting locally?

Is anybody else experiencing this? How do you get in contact with Plex Tech Support?

The fact that the IP address showing is your router’s WAN address (which is also the Remote Access address) means that something somewhere thinks that your Plex server and Sonos device(s) aren’t on the same network.

There’s an advanced network setting in the Plex server that might need to be adjusted. Some NAS devices have a Docker or other container-like setup that often adds a virtual network connection. On PCs, VM software like VirtualBox, HyperV, or VMWare can also do this. Plex may be thinking that a virtual adapter is your local network rather than the actual network connection, so you might need to adjust this setting to the correct network connection. A sample screenshot from my Plex server (which runs on a WD MyCloud NAS) is below.

Sonos requires Plex to have remote access enabled, and will stream over the internet in order to play music, even if everything is in the same network. That could be a factor on that.

If you want to play stuff from your local network in Sonos, I’ve found it’s just easier to have your music in a network share, and point the Sonos client to that network share. It’ll scan it and create a library for it in Sonos.

Thanks for your input. Well this is the reason for using Plex as my Music Server. I ran into the Sonos track limit years ago and Plex was the only solution for handling such a large library.

Thanks for your suggestion. I’ll take a look at the settings but as far as I understand casting to Sonos requires it to go externally via the Sonos servers in the cloud but don’t fully understand the reason for this.

If I find anything I’ll report back.
