Plex having issues transcoding files

Hi all,

I’m having a bit of a nightmare at the minute with my PMS. My most recent issue is that, for some reason, it has decided to stop being able to transcode anything.

I can access my media server through all means, Android App, PS4, Web interface, Roku etc. however when trying to watch any kind of film it stalls at about the 13% mark. Research has told me that this is about the time when the server starts to transcode the data. So I tried running on Direct Stream and finally Direct Play. Direct Stream, again, fails at the 13% mark, but Direct Play works fine in so far as the server is related. I cannot get the sound to play on my Roku - but I’m guessing that’s because the format is incompatible with the Roku.

Now, I’ve tried this on multiple devices so I’m pretty sure it’s not a client side issue but a server one.

I am running PMS Version 0.9.16.6 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

The only thing that I was thinking about is that my /var directory is getting rather full due to all of the artwork etc used by Plex. Could this be effecting Plex’s ability to transcode? I have noticed that in the Transcoder settings on the server there is a section for Transcoder Temporary Directory, and I was wondering that, if the default was in the /var folder, there could be issues.

Anyway, please give me a shout with any questions.

Cheers

Post your server log for review; perhaps that will help with the troubleshooting.

I created a separate partition for the Transcoder Temporary Directory and this seems to have solved the issue. I’m going to put the artwork in here too as the new partition is 60GB and my /var partition is getting pretty full at the moment.
