Plex HTPC feedback

So I upgraded to the latest version of HTPC and not only do I still get the issue with global audio delay not being applied (have to apply it each time I watch something, which is annoying for TV shows) I am not having massive stuttering video issues.

I am using a AMD 5900 with an RTX 3090 so it makes no sense for the video to be stuttering at random :frowning:

Which of the 4 audio delay options did you set?

And what is the refresh rate of your series videos?

Some good news…
I am getting bit perfect audio on CD rips (to FLAC).

My test is using DTS CDs ripped to (2 channel) FLAC. HDMI to Processor with exclusive mode checked and 7.1 speaker output setting.
DTS 5.1 44.1K is showing on processor info, thankfully.

The videos are all NTSC 24 fps (tested with different series) and I have refresh rate switching enabled.

I set the Audio delay in…

  • Fixed Audio Offset: 175
  • Fixed Audio Offset (24hz): 175
  • Fixed Audio Offset (25hz): 175

but it doesn’t seem to be applied at all. I have the correct audio device and channels set in the audio settings too.

Plex Media Player seemed to apply the 175 delay without any issues, and as I say, applying this on video playback individually works fine.

Thanks

When I go to add music tracks to the queue, selecting “Add to Queue” or “Play Next” does the same thing.

Play next is working as expected.
Add to Queue is not being added to end of the list! The tracks are all added after the song that is playing:(

If you’re going for feature parity with PMP, please add video cache size options! They were 75MB, 125MB, 500MB or similar.

Please also allow me to fully utilize my display with --keepaspect & --monitoraspect=21:9. Right now the global zoom is stopping my ability to force 21:9 playback of 21:9 content without having to press any buttons.

Will gapless audio playback become an option at some point?

Hey @OttoKerner - did you have any more thoughts on this - Plex HTPC feedback - #397 by Pottypotsworth ? Are there any logs etc I can provide that might help you guys get to the bottom of it?

Thanks

The cause of this bug has been identified and will be fixed in a future version.

Awesome, I look forward to that release. Thanks for the info.

There is another issue with audio, it is not a plex specific issue but a solution would be good:

If you have a AVR and you switch on the plex HTPC before the AVR on or you switch off the AVR before you shut down the HTPC your audio settings like 7.1 fall back to standard settings within plex HTPC. Would be good to have settings which survive this issue.
Thanks Kai

ok … but is it gapless?

Nope. Bit Perfect yes, Gapless no.

I have been unable to operate HTPC when offline.

I am trying to make a all in one machine to play media at a vacation home that has no internet. I have offline play working in the browser client through localhost 127.0.0.1:32400, but have not been successful at getting HTPC client fully offline. It will work if I am online when initially starting HTPC, and then disconnecting after it has loaded. HTPC will continue to run in offline in this case. However, HTPC does not re-start properly after an offline reboot. I think this is because the PC does not get an IP address when booting offline, which means the HTPC client fails the auth check. I have tried a couple different variations of local IP addresses in the auth whitelist, but none seem to work. I am not proficient in networking issues/troubleshooting.

I would settle for a workaround to get my project completed, but I think easier offline mode for an HTPC client would make sense. I’m sure a lot of people coming to this client have the media on the same machine and would appreciate going offline even if it was just during a short term outage.

I have noticed that Plex HTPC will have remote status for a short while after starting, before switching to local.

The Plex ecosystem in general is too dependant on access to the Plex API servers to properly work. There’s a lot of complaints on the forums about how things break down when there’s an issue with the API servers.

I noticed Plex HTPC for Mac (1.20 most recent) has some kind of memory leak or other problem, after leaving it on (the app is on to me 24/7) the UI becomes really slow. If there is any way give you the logs or anything, just let me know. After a restart of the app it’s fast again.

I have to frequently kill the app and start it again to get it to work properly too. Sound will not play, it will judder, and sometimes the UI won’t load at the right scale (it will either be huge so I can only see a corner of the UI or super tiny)

I was a bit depressed with some of the features (or lack of them) in PMP and actually came to the forum while looking for Plex alternatives - then I saw the announcement of HTPC! Amazing what new life this has put into my system. So far I’m very impressed - with just a few minor things that I’m sure will be handled in coming releases:

  1. So glad to see the Live TV Guide finally. But I wonder how to record a show in progress? Or quickly go forward a few days in the guide? Also, where is the DVR Schedule?

  2. There is a lack of 3dot menus in the app, like for a way to change from grid to list view, and other things relevant to the context you’re in.

  3. While viewing live TV, my Rokus allow me to browse the guide without interrupting the current program. Coming soon?

  4. I like the photo screen saver, but as has always been, the Plex photos and music systems are really weak. Photos really should have settings for a slideshow timer and transitions. The music library still has to be in Music → Album Artist → Album → Tracks order or it just doesn’t work well. (ranting, not really issues specific to HTPC though)

You guys should send out an email blast announcing this major addition. Looking forward to more to come!

Agree, another downside to the app compared to other HTPC UI alternatives.

Sorry, don’t check the forums often and forgot to check back on this. It seems to be auto-updating as expected now and those issues have no repeated. I will check the failing to shut down thing next time I reboot that computer - it doesn’t get rebooted often as it’s always doing stuff in the background I don’t want to interrupt. Thanks!
