Plex HTPC is the phoenix rising from the proverbial ashes of the Plex Media Player TV layout: it’s a dedicated home theater app with a gorgeous UI designed specifically for the big screen
I’m not sure 32 inch ultra wide screens and multiple monitors are in the brief.
For sure, but I’ll add, running it full screen on my 4K monitor when I work on the other monitor has been a fantastic experience, and has worked without issue until the 1.11 release, hence why I pointed it out.
Is there a way to set subtitles to be enabled by default? It’s really annoying when you have TV series and every 20 minutes when an episode ends you need to switch them back on.
I also run multiple monitors. (I have a 4k monitor I game on and the other output goes to my 1080p projector)
FYI in the past when HTPC has gotten confused alt+enter on the keyboard has helped me. It tells the app to switch between “full screen” and “windowed” mode. Often that fixes the app to do fullscreen correctly. This especially happens because the other monitor (the projector) doesn’t “exist” until my receiver turns on and completes the connection. So depending on the timing of turning on the receiver/projector and HTPC it can get confused sometimes.
Is it possible to remote control HTPC using the Plex HTTP API via direct communication with the HTPC client? I can currently control it when I proxy commands through the server but I would like to directly communicate with it when on the local network and keep that load off of the server. PMP could be directly controlled on port 32433 and the new V4 of Plexamp responds to commands on port 63908.
The devices running the software I listed above show up in the plex.tv/devices.xml file with a connection uri data field containing the local IP and port that can be used for control. HTPC shows up in the device list but without a connection uri. Interestingly when looking at the web interface on the server the only controllable player that shows up is the HTPC instance. PMP has never shown up there for me and Plexamp V3 and V4 don’t show up there.
I’m having difficulty following what your exact setup is. Could you put this info in a concise form so I can better understand your setup. I think you are saying:
Somehow I missed this comment. Maybe you replied as I was or something and it didn’t show it to me. Yes, Plex for Windows will get the gpu-context=d3d11 ability as well.
Navigation freezing issue
Windows 11 Pro (fresh install), Ryzen 3900X, GT 1030
dizqueTV (1.5.0) channels (as live tv guide)
Latest plex server and I’m getting an odd issue where navigating the UI gets stuck.
Home > Live TV Guide > jumping around channels works fine
Home > Live TV Guide > Movies > Live TV Guide > makes me stuck on the first item listed under the guide and the arrow keys do nothing. I know dizque is outside of scope but XML Live Guides and tuner playback is part of the app. Can post logs if interested. This is also a system thats effectively local lan only, running on a static ip on an isolated router.
Thank you for the reply! It’s definitely harmless and not worth delaying the build for. But in the long-term I think it heavily devalues the client because the first thing customers (or potential customers) see is a glitchy screen which does not instill confidence in the application. Fingers crossed an easy solution is found!
It’s the same for me too… Pressing back and navigating to either Home or another library and the arrow keys work again. I navigate back to Live TV & DVR and they stop again
Nothing special guide wise - I run a HD HomeRun CONNECT QUATRO and use the built-in Local TV Broadcast guide for Freeview (UK OTA DVB-T2) from Gracenote.
Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19044.1566)
Dell R7910 Rack Workstation
2 x Intel Xeon E5 2650 v3 (10 core 2.4 Ghz)
128GB DDR4-2133 RAM
NVIDIA Quadro P400
Update: The breakage appears to happen more often than not when using the backspace key to navigate back from Movies to the menu, and then onto Live TV & DVR. If I use the left arrow key to navigate from Movies to the menu, then access TV & DVR, the arrow keys appear to be usable.
For linux users on arch-based systems: I’ve created an AUR package that extracts the snap and uses as many system libraries as possible. See more here: Plex HTPC Arch package. No need to install snapd just to use plex
For those on other base distros, you might be able to look at the PKGBUILD for a manual install on other distros as well.
