I just encountered the same issue on the same movie as the below reddit post. When movie files are split up into part 1 and part 2, audio cuts out when part 2 starts playing. VLC played the part 2 file audio fine.
They are stored as two separate files. The files are stored as … {edition-Extended} - pt1 and … {edition-Extended} - pt2.mkv and were not merged. The only activity was to change the filename using Filebot and add the mentioned filename meta data.
Hmm, okay. Is this only specific to this movie or do you have other two-part movies and the problem is present there as well? Have you also already tried to merge them via mkvtoolnix? This why you are eliminating many problems.
Yes, the problem is present on all the two part movies (which are The Hobbit and LOTR extended versions). Originally, I had issues merging with mkvtoolnix and I think keeping either the captions or the multiple audio streams. Will try mkvtoolnix again.
I had some difficulty merging these as well.
You need to perform the merge action first, before applying any other processing – immediately after ripping.
I had to use a trick on one of those movies, before I was able to merge them: use MKVtoolnix to cut 2 seconds from the beginning and end of the files. I assume that the length of the video and audio streams was not perfectly the same, so that a few frames were missing inbetween the two parts
