Plex, if you think your user feedback doesn't matter, you need to rethink

It’s clear that some hubris is in the works at Plex with these navigation design changes. People who either have ulterior motives other than an actually good user experience or they aren’t capable of understanding.

These changes will not have the result you intend. You have one exploitable base right now and that’s your existing LONG TIME users/customers. You think you are appealing to some new dynamic, some new market, you are not. Your design is bad for EVERYONE not just your existing customers. It’s highly dysfunctional, laborious and extremely clunky. You’ve forgotten rule number 1 of good UX Design changes…it has to improve the user experience not make it worse.

You could have left the side navigation bar and added new sections or an “extra” section across the top. But you chose not to. You think that a media library interface can be the same as a media box interface, it cannot! They are not the same.

All you’ve done is alienate your existing base, extravagantly. That is your only base right now and you are lucky that many of them already paid for lifetime subscriptions.

Hire some actually decent UX designers. Lose the egos, admit you screwed up, and fix it. We were loyal but that’s vanishingly thin right now. Word of mouth is a big thing and you’ve pretty much lost it at this point.

I’m pretty sure Plex is tired of hearing from me, but seriously - the left navigation menu is the only navigation paradigm that makes sense for contextual and immediate navigation.

Everything else is secondary. And Plex is proving everyday over the last year that they’re declining.

They can cancel my migration by fixing their UI/UX mess, but once I complete it, I’m not coming back. And if my users want access to my media afterward, they’ll have to prove they deleted their user accounts with Plex first.

I mean… Plex updated their forums from a top level drop down menu system to a left hand navigation menu. Which is the “modern” design?

I had my snarky comment deleted saying this exact thing. The irony for this “modern” forum layout when it’s the exact layout we wanted to stay in the regular Plex client apps :man_facepalming:

They keep doing this, and they clearly don’t see the irony. Or they don’t care. I’m going with the latter.

Wait, does this mean what I think it means? Or is that too hopeful?

It’s only for the search results, unfortunately.

Figured it was too good to be true
