Plex influence on my laptop?

Does Plex have any influence on my laptop if I dont turn Plex on after the laptop has been turned of?

If you stop (or don’t start) the Plex Media Server, it won’t run / work / influence

Great! Thanks!
I was wondering because I did not yet understand that Plex i financed by adds.
I have been lurking around in the application and can’t find how to watch my own files that I have on the hard drive. Do I need to download something more to do that?

I’d say there are three main feature areas that Plex covers:

  1. Personal media. This seems to be what you want (i.e. play your own content). If so, I’d start by looking at the PMS Quick-Start Guide (and other support articles).
  2. Free ad-supported streaming. This seems to be what you’re referring to when you say “Plex is financed by adds.” Plex only shows ads on its own streaming content, never on your personal media.
  3. Discover - Acts as a sort of bridge between your personal server content and content from streaming services, e.g. allowing you to see where media is available to watch/stream (along with many other features). Also includes social features like seeing what your friends have watched and rated (if you/your friends decide to share that information).

You need to install and set up the Plex Media Server on a computer of device like a NAS to play your own files. You may have only installed one of the many Plex player apps.

In this page I want to choose Ubuntu 20,04 but select the closest to it (16.04+) but it does not work.

What CPU is in your system? There are 4 different versions for 4 different architectures, so make sure you download the one that matches your system.

I am answering myself!
I downloaded it several times!
I am now installing.
I will get back about if it works or not.

Do You mean 32 or 64 bites?
Mine is 64 bites and that is what I chose.
I have gotten the Plex media server running but I can’t choose the films I find.
I can find videofiles but can not save them in the Plex media server.

I think I am beginning to learn!
I have managed to save 4 files in the library.
What does the scanning do?

What exactly have you tried? Did you go through the Creating Libraries support article to create a library that points to your media files? Also make sure your files are named according to Plex’s guidelines ( Category : Your Media | Plex Support), as otherwise Plex might not see all of your content.

2 very good links!
I have already found out a little about scanning so I have quite a lot in the library now.

Thanks for the help I will learn and if necessary come back for more help

This new user is polite and reading the documentation. There has not been a single insult or threat yet. IS THIS A TRICK?!

Just kidding! Welcome aboard @knu49.

Organizing and naming your files as in the article @DTR linked is probably THE most important thing you can do when setting up a new Plex server… Don’t cut corners.

I would also look in the settings and find the option for automatically emptying the trash after a scan, and make sure it is OFF.

Have fun!
